Sylna Ukrayina party to support Tihipko in presidential elections
Nov 28, 2009 at 19:46 | Ukrainian NewsThe relevant decision was adopted at the party's tenth congress, which is taking place in Kyiv on Saturday, November 28.
In his address to the congress, Tihipko promised to do everything possible to win the presidential elections.
"I promise to do everything to make it into the second round and win," Tihipko said.
According to him, 25-30% of voters have not yet made their decision and it is specifically on them that he is counting.
Tihipko also said that it was necessary to prepare for local elections because development of local self-government is the future.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Labor Party has decided to rename itself as the Sylna Ukraina party.
The Labor Party elected Tihipko to replace Dmytro Syrota as its leader on Saturday.
The main items on the agenda of the congress are the name of the party, a new version of its statutes, a new version of its program, its manifesto, and support for Tihipko's candidacy in the 2010 presidential elections.
The Central Electoral Commission registered Tihipko as a presidential candidate on October 27.
Campaigning in the 2010 presidential elections began on October 19; the presidential elections are scheduled for January 17, 2010.
