Marauding cows are driving tourists from beaches and forcing villagers indoors in Corsica, to the dismay of local mayors who say they have no power to stop them.

Several people have been gored after getting in the way of wandering cows, which have multiplied over recent years to 15,000 on the mountainous French Mediterranean island. About half belong to farmers who have the right to let them graze on the hillsides, and half are considered wild.
