G2 acquire Spanish roster
Following Giants' announcement of having acquired eu4ia last week, it is now G2's turn to announce they have secured the services of a Spanish roster of their own.
When ESL Masters Spain was announced, with a 22,100€ prize pool, several organizations started to show interest in fielding teams for it. The first one to make a move was Movistar—one of the big investors in the league—taking in Nevermind, the roster that upset their way into qualifying for the tournament first ahead of all the favorites.
Last week it was Giants, announcing they were picking Jonathan "MusambaN1" Torrent & co. up. This time it is the Spanish organization G2V, who already field a top flight team, that are investing in national CS following the steps they took in League of Legends, where they also have one of the best teams in Europe as well as a team in Spain.
EasTor & co. want to prove G2 were right in picking them up
With other tournament organizers like GAME and LVP said to be planning projects of their own, and thus bringing more investment opportunities as well as more eyes to Counter-Strike, the Spanish scene could finally get an injection of money that will help discover once and for all if stability and infrastructure will be able to raise it to new heights.
Playing under G2.Vodafone, G2's localised Spanish project with Vodafone, G2V will feature Rajohn "EasTor" Linato, Marcos "AEROZ" Gonzalez Ochoa, Carlos "peelk" Barrio, and Alfredo "enanoks" Alvarez, the ex-x6tence core that won the last Gamergy LAN in Spain. After leaving x6tence, the quartet teamed up with one of the rising young prospects in the country, Aaron "nmt" Awad, who recently earned a spot in FPL after coming in first in the FPL-C promotion ladder.
The team will don their new colors tonight when they play their first ESL Masters Spain match, in which they will face off against Baskonia at 20:30 on ESL Spain's channel, here.
EasTor's statement to the Spanish news site, Trasgo:
"Signing for G2 has been a joy for us after having gone through a rough patch. Honestly, it is an oportunity that happens once and it's one more step towards becoming professionals that will allow us to achieve what we want. They took a gamble with us and that is what will make us give 300% to demonstrate they haven't made a mistake [...] I think our strong points or key factors have always been to keep a united bloc, be consistent, and especially to show ascending progress.
My players and I are very happy and thankful to be a part of this organization because we are going to learn a lot, and are of course ready to give everything we have to achieve as much as possible in both national and European competition."
G2V's full roster consists of:
Rajohn "EasTor" Linato
Alfredo "enanoks" Alvarez
Aaron "nmt" Awad
Marcos "AEROZ" Gonzalez Ochoa
Carlos "peelk" Barrio
