Britain's first public memorial to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust was covered up and guarded by Met Police officers to stop pro-Palestinian protestors targeting the monument. Police chiefs have been urged to halt the almost weekly marches through Central London, which critics warn has turned the capital into a 'no-go' area for Jewish people. Holocaust survivor Noemi Ebenstein, 82, described the move as 'shameful'.

More than 20 'sexual predators' have been jailed for a total 346 years after eight young girls in West Yorkshire were raped, abused and trafficked over 13 years. The 24 men were arrested as part of Operation Tourway's discovery of their years-long campaign of abuse, which has been described as 'abhorrent in the extreme'. The West Yorkshire Police's investigation uncovered rape, sexual abuse and trafficking of eight girls in the North Kirklees area, including the towns of Batley and Dewsbury, between 1999 and 2012. Reporting restrictions on a series of five trials over two years were lifted on Friday after the sentencing of the last seven men at Leeds Crown Court, police confirmed on Saturday. Four of the men convicted in the series of trials received sentences of more than 20 years.

I am in a busy McDonald's in Covent Garden, London , picking up a double cheeseburger with large fries and a Caesar & bacon chicken wrap with fries. The cost is £12.71, but it's not for me. A pro-Palestinian protester holding a banner comparing Israel to the Nazis (left) and a demonstrator (right) who hurled racist abuse at campaigners against anti-Semitism were two people arrested at a huge Gaza march today. 'Hundreds of thousands' marched through the streets of London in a series of protests (inset) today, some in support of a ceasefire in Gaza and others to call for an end to anti-Semitism. An event organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) began at Parliament Square at 12pm, setting off at 12.30pm on a route via Whitehall, Piccadilly and Park Lane and will end at Hyde Park , where speeches will be given. A counter protest by  pro-Israeli groups against anti-Semitism is also being held and overlapped in some places with the route of the pro-Palestinian march. Bella Wallersteiner, 29, who has Jewish heritage and 30 of whose relatives were murdered in the Holocaust, was at the protest and saw a number of offensive signs. She said: 'It has become painfully routine, to the extent I've actually become slightly desensitised to it all. I'm sick of shouldering responsibility that should fall on the police. It's exhausting to constantly educate people about why these images are harmful. I shouldn't have to be the one policing these events!' She added: '[I] just can't believe we've had six months of anti-Semitism masquerading as solidarity. If the Met can't cope, [the] government should take it out of their hands.'

A 13-year-old boy has finally found a 'holy grail' Lego plastic octopus piece 26 years that disappeared into the sea from a shipping container in the 1990s. Liutauras Cemolonskas said, after two years of searching, he was 'happy' to have found the rare octopus, which was one of nearly five million pieces of Lego that fell into the sea in 1997 when a cargo ship encountered a storm. Lego fan Liutauras has collected almost 800 pieces of Lego that fell into the sea.

The Dutch royal family were out in full force for the annual festival, which marks the birthday of King Willem-Alexander, this year heading to the town of Emmen in the north east. Iraqi TikTok sensation Om Fahad has been shot dead outside her Baghdad home in an apparent assassination, according to Iraqi security officials. An unidentified attacker shot the popular influencer in her car in the Zayouna district, a security official said, requesting anonymity. The attacker, who arrived on a motorbike, appeared to have pretended to be making a food delivery before firing upon Fahad, according to another security official.
