- Combine lentils with the spices and water. Be sure to use a large enough saucepan as the lentils will more than double in size once cooked.
- Bring to a boil, cover tightly with a lid, reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the lentils are tender. Stir occasionally.
(Optional) Tasty Preparation Tips:
-Use vegetable or chicken stock, instead of water, to enhance the flavour
-Saute 1 chopped onion in 1 Tbsp (15 mL) of oil on medium heat for 3 minutes. Add the spices and continue to cook for 1 minute. Add liquid and lentils, and continue to follow the cooking directions above
-Toss in your favourite vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, olives, or eggplant
-Try this dish in a slow-cooker with your favourite vegetables and meat
