We're sorry to have to do this to you. We don't want to. We're going through it too. It's not permanent and it won't last forever, but you are going to have to break up with your favourite faux-fur coat for a few months, unless overheating sits on top of your summer agenda.

We're not talking a clean break, but it's not going to be your faux-fur coat that you reach for everyday like you've probably been doing - like us - since September 1. What's less clear, however, with these items is how best to look after them - whether you're wearing it everyday or preparing to store it safely for the summer.

From what to do when you're not wearing it to quick fixes for inevitable spillages, Hannah shares her top tips on how to clean your faux-fur coat with Miss Vogue. It's really not that different to the way you care for your hair...

How do you advise storing faux fur in the summer months?

"Faux fur as a fabric doesn't attract much dust and moths don't like it, so it stores well! Just leave it hanging in your wardrobe."

Can you put faux-fur coats in the washing machine, or should you hand wash or dry clean?

"Faux fur must be dry cleaned, and we recommend to always check with your specific dry cleaner that they know how to work with the fabric."

What’s your top tip for keeping your faux fur coat fresh at all times?

"Combing, and you can also do spot cleaning yourself. Spray a little bit of water on the coat using a clean spray bottle, comb through with a natural bristle brush, and blow dry on a cool setting. It's like a faux-fur pampering session. Also, don't sit on dirty seats."

How often should you clean it?

"It depends how much you wear it! I wear mine a lot and I dry clean them once at the end of each winter, with a bit of spot cleaning in between."

Hannah, oops. I’ve spilt coffee over my coat - what’s the best way to quickly clean it off?

"Spot clean with a bit of water and a brush."

** I’ve noticed I’ve got something sticky on my jacket – how can I best get it off?**

"With something sticky you could sponge the area and then brush through."

What’s your favourite product for looking after your faux fur?

"My Mason Pearson hairbrush."
