[–]Hueyandthenews 2663 points2664 points  (172 children)

Yea but what about with rice?

[–]KenzaSheep 991 points992 points  (152 children)

I'm not sure I understand the question

[–]EstradaEtoile 1215 points1216 points  (133 children)

It's an old Reddit joke. I believe it's from this post

[–]heir_of_gondor 681 points682 points  (92 children)

Jesus Christ that’s from almost 6 years ago! Where has the time gone? I remember that post so vividly.

[–]Benka7 304 points305 points  (63 children)

Then u/DO_U_EVN_SPAGHETTI must be like 19 or 20 now! Time flies quickly

[–]DO_U_EVN_SPAGHETTI 1067 points1068 points  (59 children)

I just turned 20, it's insane to think about how long ago that post was

[–]Noltonn 396 points397 points  (5 children)

The man. The myth. The rice.

[–]appdevil 55 points56 points  (4 children)

[–]TwoHeadedCactus 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Everything is deleted. Was the rice guy lying about his age or something?

[–]Kalsifur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incase anyone is wondering here is the undeleted version.

[–]Der_Blitzkrieg 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Holy fuck I just spent way too long reading through that. You rated everything suprisingly highly.

[–]beckymp 61 points62 points  (2 children)

Oh my god it’s you! Have you had a lot of rice since?

What was your favourite combination from that post?

[–]surfer_ryan 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I have so many questions for u/DO_U_EVN_SPAGHETTI. This is for sure my number 1 question.

[–]crookederic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude your 14 year-old past-self just made my day, thanks bro

[–]Spacemanspalds 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Do you still have reddit premium from the old rice post?

[–]DO_U_EVN_SPAGHETTI 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Swear to god it actually finally expired this or last month, 95% of it coming just from that thread.

[–]Spacemanspalds 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's nuts. Have another week sir!

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (8 children)

      That post with rice. 11/10

      [–]Maghliona 29 points30 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think so lol It's more like that's the amused face I'm making while I type. I think.... Or is it just "alright, alright, alright?" The world may never know....

        Thank you.

There are so many r/awardspeechedits in that thread. I'm kinda sad now though, because back then Reddit gold had way more significance than it does now, so the jubilation is more understandable.

        [–]latenerd 76 points77 points  (16 children)

Old reddit meme. Kid ate all kinds of non-rice related foods with rice and rated them.

        [–]KenzaSheep 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Fun stuff. Personally, wearing shirt with rice: 3/10 I'd have to clean it all up when I walked around, but it gets points for being warm xD

What's the conversion rate to Stanley nickels?

              [–]per1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

              [–]zaiueo 32 points33 points  (3 children)

              Wouldn't 1 megabuck be 1 million bucks?

              [–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Yes. And if a if that amount of money could be represented by a single bill of legal tender Vacity would spend it on a t-shirt. GAWD.

              [–]Kegrath[🍰] 21 points22 points  (8 children)

Where are mega bucks good at?

Imo the marking is too bright and looks very manufactured. The colour needs to be more faded and chaotic (like the original).

That's awesome. That's one of those things that if you tried to do intentionally you wouldn't be able to get it to turn out this good.

              [–]UnclearSogeum 46 points47 points  (2 children)

Get a ton of the same shirts and go ham. Could be expensive and time consuming but that's not the point.

I mean, technically that's still correct

I had the same thing happen to some black curtains that my parents left up in their camping trailer. I'd really love a scientific breakdown of what's happening here, because those things were literally falling apart wherever they'd been sun bleached.

              [–]ProfessorPihkal 1152 points1153 points  (93 children)

UV light breaks down almost everything given enough time.

              [–][deleted] 724 points725 points  (87 children)

Including skin. Wear a hat, kids.

              [–]MadCarcinus 156 points157 points  (74 children)

If you covered your body in uv resistant clothes for most of your life, would your skin remain young looking?

              [–]Gangsir 349 points350 points  (7 children)

Age itself would still have an effect, but yes, you'd generally gain wrinkles and sunspots a lot slower on the parts covered by the clothes.

              [–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (4 children)

You would also have your veins show all over your pale face, like those medieval royals in spain who decided to never leave their palace to avoid getting a tan.

              [–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Much younger and healthier than it would otherwise. You're not going to avoid all effects of aging but using sunscreen and protective clothing goes a very long way.

Question: how do you get sufficient vitamin D without exposing yourself to too much uv?

              [–]TrapWolf 23 points24 points  (3 children)

From your food or/and* either supplements

              [–]IFuckedYourDog 32 points33 points  (1 child)

              Vitamin D tablets can help

              [–]Reiver_Neriah 17 points18 points  (8 children)

You only need a few minutes a day unprotected generally. That or take supplements.

              [–]EpicLegendX 11 points12 points  (1 child)

If you're of a darker complexion, then you'll need a little bit more time out in the sun.

              [–]SweetTea1000 7 points8 points  (2 children)

When I first moved to Minnesota the doctor informed me that apparently everyone at these latitudes or higher is on D supplements.

              [–]ReasonableBeep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh shit I live in Canada and I don’t know anyone around me that takes vitamin D supps. That probably explains why the seasonal blues are so prevalent here 😂vit D is now first on my grocery shopping list.

                [–]jonathot12 11 points12 points  (5 children)

most celebrities whose skin looks incredible at age 40 or 50 usually say their trick is to put sunscreen on every day.

                [–]fribbas 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I'm sure the buttloads of money and plastic surgery don't hurt either

                [–]AziMeeshka 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It can really only do so much. If you don't take care of yourself then you are still going to look like shit much faster than people who are meticulous about their health and skin care. Even if you get work on your face, your hands are still going to look 60.

                [–]ba3toven 35 points36 points  (1 child)

                Not that hat, grandpa.

Destroyed skin cells = no problem. Destroyed genetic blueprints = cancer.

                [–]spulch 78 points79 points  (31 children)

Sunlight is radiation. Infrared, ultraviolet, and visible are the big types of radiation from the sun. Off the top of head I believe its UV that breaks down most synthetics. And heat breaks down most things. Camper curtains are probably some type of synthetic because of price and washability.

                [–]douglasg14b 44 points45 points  (30 children)

                Sunlight is radiation

LIGHT is radiation, from radio (30-300Ghz), to LTE (~25MHz), to 5G (~450MHz - 6GHz), visible light (405-790THz), to ultraviolet (~1000THz), to x-rays(30PHz - 30EHz), to gamma rays. It's all electromagnetic radiation.

The frequency is related to energy, and inversely related to wavelength. The higher the frequency, the lower the wavelength, and the higher the energy.

Ultraviolet light has a high enough energy to be ionizing, this means it can knock electrons off of atoms. This means that stuff exposed to it will slowly be broken down at a molecular level over time. And in the case of many dyes, the pigments break down rather easily.

This also applies to your skin, a sunburn isn't really a burn as much as it is your cells self-destructing due to DNA damage from ultraviolet light.

Fun fact the people that are upset about 5G being dangerous have a fundamental misunderstanding about how light works Just look at the frequencies I listed at the beginning of this post. 450 megahertz is 5G, visible light STARTS at ~400 terahertz... And that's not even close to being ionizing.

                [–]Potato_Soup_ 6 points7 points  (12 children)

so, radio waves are still photons with "oscillations" too low to be visible?

                [–]AccountGotLocked69 6 points7 points  (8 children)

Exactly. All electromagnetic waves are made up of photons. The cones in our eyes have a kind of specific "resonant frequency" at which photons can interact with them. Once you go too far above that or too far below that, the cones in our eyes don't register the photons anymore.

                [–]NaykedNinja 5 points6 points  (2 children)

You have your units and frequencies wrong for LTE/5G. 450 GHz would not be possible for cellular networks - it would not be able to penetrate anything.

5G is going to use two different bands, 450 MHz-6 GHz and 24.25 GHz to 52.6 GHz. LTE uses 700 MHz to 2.7 GHz.

                [–]CompMolNeuro 11 points12 points  (3 children)

UV radiation excites the molecules at the surface of the material giving the bonds in the dye enough energy to break down.

Honestly sounds like bad quality clothing

Depends. I live in New Mexico and the grill cover we had back East turned from solid black to white in about a month when we moved here. 5000+ feet elevation and constant sunshine is intense.

                  [–]MrFluffyThing 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Albuquerque sun can be brutal. I used to live east coast too and my wife moved with me to Albuquerque where I grew up and she's learned the hard way that leaving stuff in the sun fades way faster here.

                  [–]Beardamus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah people don't understand that the UV index here is 11+ most days of the year which is insane.

                  [–]laygo3 344 points345 points  (10 children)

                  Dope. I'd rock it.

                  [–]ramobara 138 points139 points  (5 children)

                  Urban Outfitters would sell it.

                  [–]pfizer_soze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

                  John Elliott would sell it

Haha, awesome to see the shirt getting all this love! I was actually using the shirt to prevent rattling from my car's subwoofer

                    [–]Apaulling8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Assuming it was exposed to sunlight often. Can you tell us what region, or at least the climate in your area? Not trying to get you doxxed, I'm legitimately considering how I might recreate this.

                    [–]DeadColdLasagna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How long was the shirt in the back of your car?

                    [–]Scally59 62 points63 points  (1 child)

At first I thought it was just sunlight in it. Then I read the title and understood. Then it began to look like fire...

                    It's awesome though!

                    [–]point_nemo_ 61 points62 points  (1 child)

You should make more and sell them. Free range, organic, sun dyed shirts. $99.99.

                    [–]flip_ericson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its not free range it was clearly wadded up and crammed in a car for years. 1/10 would not purchase unethical shirt

                    [–]Grindlebone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

                    That's quite nifty

                    [–]Lucario171 15 points16 points  (2 children)

                    that shirt is on FIRE!

                    [–]GSDNinjadog 11 points12 points  (1 child)

                    ....that shirt is on fireeeee...

                    [–]PriestofSif 127 points128 points  (21 children)

If this shirt was mine, I would walk around wearing it and tell people to guess what it's supposed to be.

                    [–]CanAlwaysBeBetter 102 points103 points  (16 children)

Ah yes, everybody's favorite guy: The "Hey. Psst. Hey buddy. Can you guess what my shirt is? You'll never get it but you gotta guess. Go on. I'll wait why you think. It's so good man. There's no way you can guess what it's from. No way. You gotta guess man. Come on. Just guess already man. What do you think? Oh come on! Don't say you don't know! You've gotta guess something! What!? You think I'd go to one of their shows? No way man what an awful guess. Ok. So, it's totally crazy but this shirt is actually..." Guy

                    [–]PriestofSif 18 points19 points  (13 children)

But that's the thing- since the design was unintentional, there is no "wrong" or "right" answer. Buy a drink for anyone who can convince you their answer's a good one.

I see Aku from Samurai Jack

                    [–]PriestofSif 5 points6 points  (6 children)

I don't even need to be convinced of that one.

                    [–]joegt123 13 points14 points  (8 children)

Would there be a way of replicating this? Leaving it under a UV lamp for a week or something?

                    [–]me3zzyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Leave it in the back of your car for a few years.

Ok. You should really clean your car more often.

You can buy a replica t-shirt like this at H&M for $79.99.

                      [–]nitsujsret 151 points152 points  (8 children)

I don’t think anything at H&M costs that much?

Seriously. I’ve gotten clearance shirts from there for like $3 lol

                        [–]partyonmybloc 51 points52 points  (3 children)

Have you ever actually shopped there? A lot of their stuff is cheap af, you could buy half the store with $80 lol any time I need a basic shirt when I'm traveling, I just stop in and grab one for $5.

                        [–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Makes sense if it takes years of leaving it out in the sun to create

                        [–]Letsstartariotxx 30 points31 points  (0 children)

                        You’re thinking urban outfitters

H&M is like dirt cheap what the fuck are you on about

                        [–]JamesVanShenn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Idk what kind of h&m you shop at everything is very cheap because of the child labour.

                        [–]Woodshadow 14 points15 points  (2 children)

does H&M sell anything for more than $20? Their stuff is made to fall apart

                        [–]Pycharming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some jackets and coats can easily be $80, but yeah no t-shirt is going to be that expensive at H&M.

                        [–]zordon_rages 13 points14 points  (0 children)

H&M is most definitely a budget brand my dude

                        [–]holymasamune 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Cram lots of shirts into back of car

                        Step 2: ???

Step 3: Profit! (after 10 years?)

                        [–]floraldelights 17 points18 points  (4 children)

                        [–]me3zzyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy's having the biggest crisis of his life. Do I keep this up cuz it got more than 100 karma? Or do I delete it so people don't realize what a retard I am?

                        [–]pileatus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For everyone lusting after the look: you can do this yourself really easily and quickly! Scrunch your black garment up (or fold it, rubber band it like tie dye, etc.) and spritz it with dilute bleach. It'll have the same pinky-red fading effect. You can also make a stencil and stencil on designs with bleach (though you have to be careful not to use too much, or it'll bleed beyond the stencil and look blobby.) You can do this with other colored clothing too, as long as it's natural fiber (I think.) Many dyes/colors will bleach to a purer white than black does.

Brb, gonna buy a black shirt and leave it in my car for a couple years
