The Heritage Foundation launched its new website, The Daily Signal, Tuesday with former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson as its senior independent contributor.

Miss Attkisson’s first report with the conservative news site was an exclusive about government-funded medical research on premature babies.

Heritage launched the site to shine a light on the “really good stories that go unreported or under-reported,” said Geoff Lysaught, the site’s publisher and Heritage’s vice president of strategic communications, The Washington Post reported.

“We want to be where the news gets its news,” he said. “We want to see a world where Fox, MSNBC, CNN, The Washington Post and the New York Times are reporting on the things that were first reported on the Daily Signal.”

The website is starting out with only 12 journalists, hailing from mostly conservative news organizations, and will operate on a relatively small budget of $1 million a year, The Post reported.

The Heritage blog “The Foundry” will be phased out, but editors are hopeful the some 2.6 million unique visitors from last month will gravitate to the new site, The Post said.
