With quotes taken from DailyActor.com interviews conducted over the last eight years with new and veteran actors from stage, television, and film...including Emmy and Oscar winners...on topics running the spectrum of an actor's existence...from falling in love with the craft, to choosing classes, to auditioning, to dealing with rejection, to dealing with success, and much more...'Actors on Acting' is sort of a Chicken Soup For the Actor's Soul (but without the cease and desist from the Chicken Soup people...and possibly Campbell's).

Lance has put together a great, easy read with tips and advice from Alan Alda, Melissa Leo, Ernie Hudson, Jane Lynch, Alison Brie, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Goodman, Bruce Campbell, Henry Winkler (the freakin' Fonz, people!), and many more. No matter where you are in your acting career...just starting out, making progress, hitting a wall, regularly working...there's something relevant to you in this book. (Do we still call them books if they're only available in digital? I'm going with it.)

What's great about Lance's interviews is that he asks questions from the point of view of an actor...questions about craft, preparation, and the nuts and bolts of being an actor. These interviews aren't celeb-puff pieces, they're a resource for actors.

After you finish the book, you should go over to DailyActor.com and bookmark it. It's a great actors resource, but also a great place for fans to find film and tv content (trailers, reviews, etc.).

Enjoy.

I've been a big fan of DailyActor.com for years, so when I heard the site's Editor-in-Chief Lance Carter was putting together a compilation of his interviews I jumped at the chance to read it. The interviews in the book, like many of those on the site, are completely unfiltered - and they have a certain "fly on the wall" quality as Carter has (wisely) decided not to edit them; you get to hear all the "um's," "you knows," and "Oh my God I didn't just say that's" these talented actors let slip while talking to him. A real treat!

To be clear, I'm not an actor, but it's full of valuable advice, and I think more important, perspective, on dealing with the passion and drive, struggles and successes, and how others have gotten through it.

It's also a great read for those that are not actors, but also movie fans, celebrity fans, and those that love the insider's view and behind-the-scene perspective from a wide range of people that have had a wide range of success in the industry, and Lance captures quite a lot in a well organized way.

Highly recommended.
