Abstract
The crisis of traditional political parties has opened space for the promotion of new political ideas and entities. Populist parties and leaders stood out among them. Hence, this chapter deals with the crisis of traditional political parties. The causes of this crisis can be attributed to several factors such as the culture of distrust in politics and political parties that have been built in the last few decades, the constant accusations that politics is a dishonest profession and politicians are corrupt, the feeling that politicians are not honest and manipulate citizens, the repositioning of the parties in the political spectrum due to which they lost the connection with the traditional voters, etc. As a consequence, the turnout in the elections is falling, and the number of people who are members of parties is decreasing. In such conditions, a part of the people see the solution to the social problems in anti-systemic parties and movements such as the populist ones.
