Tracey Emin's Margate

At the tip of Kent, on the Isle of Thanet, sits the seaside resort of Margate - the childhood home of artist Tracey Emin. The town and its views have provided inspiration for her work - just as they did 200 years ago for the artist JMW Turner.

A staunch supporter of Margate's new Turner Contemporary gallery - Tracey Emin is hoping it will play a significant role in the area's economic regeneration. She has been dismayed at what she sees as the town's decline over the past 20 years.

As guest editor for BBC Radio 4's Today programme she returned to see the gallery, and to meet some of the people - young and old - who also call Margate home.
