Welcome to the first in a series of Archival Mysteries prepared by the Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Website! The Archival Mystery series asks you to step into the shoes of a historian and investigate significant episodes from the province’s past. We will help you along the way by providing background information on each case and by leaving a trail of clues and evidence, in the form of archival documents.

In this mystery, you will have to sift through telegrams, log books, eyewitness testimony, newspaper clippings, old photographs, and much more to determine just what happened during the Icefields Disaster of 1914.
