MetaCyc EC 1.1.1.310 -- (S)-sulfolactate dehydrogenase

Parent Class: EC-Numbers1 -- Oxidoreductases1.1 -- Acting on the CH-OH group of donors1.1.1 -- With NAD(+) or NADP(+) as acceptor

Synonyms: (2S)-3-sulfolactate dehydrogenase, SlcC

Systematic Name: (2S)-sulfolactate:NAD+ oxidoreductase

Unification Links: BRENDA:1.1.1.310, ENZYME:1.1.1.310, IUBMB-ExplorEnz:1.1.1.310

Reaction:
(2S)-3-sulfolactate + NAD+ ↔ 3-sulfopyruvate + NADH + H+

Enzymes and Genes:
S-sulfolactate dehydrogenase: slcC ( Chromohalobacter salexigens DSM 3043 )

Summary:
This enzyme, isolated from the bacterium Chromohalobacter salexigens DSM 3043, acts only on the (S)-enantiomer of 3-sulfolactate. Combined with EC 1.1.1.338, (2R)-3-sulfolactate dehydrogenase (NADP+), it provides a racemase system that converts (2S)-3-sulfolactate to (2R)-3-sulfolactate, which is degraded further by EC 4.4.1.24, (2R)-sulfolactate sulfo-lyase. Specific for NAD+.
