To end dependence on US and its aid

The treacherous actions of the President Biden and the Senate Majority leader, Chuck Schumer reaffirm the author’s belief that the dependence on the U.S. and its aid present an existential threat to the state of Israel and Jewish people.

Several weeks ago, Biden and the Senate Majority leader of the Democrats in the Congress, Chuck Schumer initiated an aggressive attack on the State of Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They were intruding into the internal affairs of the sovereign country by calling for new election with aim to replace the present Prime Minister. These was done to appease the extreme left wing of the Democratic party and to get the votes of the Muslim Americans.  Several days ago, they realized that the number of Jewish American votes they will lose by continued bashing the state of Israel is much larger than the Muslim voters gained.  They panicked and now they are committed supporters of the State of Israel. What a despicable behavior of a presumably an ally and a friend!

The former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to the President Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, stated:’ It may be dangerous to be American enemy, but to be American friend is fatal”. Who knew better then Henry Kissinger the nature of the foreign policy of the United States of America.

There is a long list of countries and individuals the United States of America had abandon when the support for these countries and people did not meet the interests and political aspirations of the people in power.

In 1963, President John Kennedy said: “we want to see a stable government there, (in South Vietnam) carrying on a struggle to maintain its national independence”.  In 1969, President Richard Nixon addressing to the Nation on the War in Vietnam stated: “A nation cannot remain great if it betrays its allies and lets down its friends”. In the same speech President Nixon noted that the United States precipitation of the withdrawal would be a nightmare of enormous proportion. On March 29, 1973 U.S. withdrew the last military unit from South Vietnam. Nixon’s ability to affect the war in Vietnam was diminished because of the Watergate affair. The American Congress in summer of 1973 blocked military actions in Vietnam.  In summer of 1974 Nixon resigned the Presidency in disgrace. The same year the Congress cut the military and economic aid to South Vietnam by 30 percent. In spring of 1975 South Vietnam was taken over by the forces of communist North Vietnam. On April 29, 1975 the staff of the American embassy in Saigon was evacuated by helicopters. At the same time many South Vietnamese civilians were climbing the embassy walls trying to get to the helicopters to escape the coming tragedy. For thousands and thousands of South Vietnamese left behind by United States the outcome was fatal.

In October of 2001 the United Stated invaded Afghanistan when the Taliban refused to turn over Osama bin Laden to U.S. The war lasted for 20 years. Meantime Osama bin Laden was shot and killed in 2011 in Pakistan., “A democratic Afghanistan would be a hopeful alternative to the vision of the extremists” President Bush stated in 2002 But it did not happen. It was the failure of the American leadership, civilian and military, to understand the mentality of Afghan’s people which include the national pride, the long history of fighting the foreign invaders, resentment of the foreign occupation and religious commitment to fight for the country. The United States lost the war and experienced a humiliating withdrawal. In August 2021 the people who were watching TV will never forget the Afghans running behind the US Air Force plane and some of the people hanging on to the plane as it took off.  Some Afghans fell to their deaths from the plane.

Americans abandon the people of Afghanistan. For thousands and thousands of Afghans who collaborated with the Americans and were left behind the outcome was fatal.

In 1975 Hosni Mubarak was appointed as Vice President by the President of Egypt Anwar Sadat. After the assassination of Anwar Sadat in 1981, Hosni Mubarak assumed the Egyptian Ho

Presidency which lasted close to thirty years.  Mubarak upheld the US-brokered Camp David Accord treaty signed between Egypt and Israel though the time of his presidency.  As Reuters reported at the time in the article ‘Israel shocked by Obama’s “betrayal” of Mubarak’ (January 11, 2011): “Political commentators expressed shock at how the United States as well as its major European allies appeared to be ready to dump a staunch strategic ally of three decades, simply to conform to the current ideology of political correctness”. The same source quoted the Israeli’s President at the time Shimon Peres: “We always have had and still have great respect for President Mubarak” and “I don’t say everything that he did was right, but he did one thing which all of us thankful to him: he kept the peace in the Middle East”. Hosni Mubarak did resign the Presidency in 2011 under the pressure from Obama’s administration.  He and his sons were prosecuted and jailed for several years. He died in 2020 in the hospital from severe illness. It was not fatal but the United States betrayed the man.

The list of the countries abandon by U.S. includes South Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Syrian Kurds, and also Saudi Arabia now when the United States has reoriented toward Iran as main ally in the Middle East.

The United States announced its support for Ukraine’s war with Russia. Considering its record to follow up on the promises to support the counties fighting for their independence there is not much hope for successful outcome.

To end the dependence on U.S. is not a thing which will happen overnight. It is a long-term process which needs to start as soon as possible by the government of Israel and the Knesset, encouraging the Israeli defense industry to produce the weapons locally.  It will test the friendship between US and Israel.
