Abstract
The introductory chapter presents the research topic of language-related issues of ethnic/national (through the book ethnic and national will be used interchangeably when speaking of minorities—as in the Serbian context these two determination have similar meanings) minorities in the education system of Serbia. Next comes the historical overview of the societal factors that shaped the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, the region in my focus. The chapter also introduces the two focal concepts of the book, gender, and nationality, from an intersectional perspective, along with intersectionality as a theory and method applied during my research. The chapter ends with a trail guide to the book.

A smaller town near Novi Sad, with almost half of the population being Hungarian.

The third national group is Croatian and the fourth is Roma; however, this research did not cover those national groups because the Croatian language is very similar to Serbian. The Roma minority was not included because the Roma sub-state minority group does not even have primary and secondary education in Serbia.
