Abstract
In the present chapter we highlight overarching themes that emerged in the preceding chapters and suggest future directions. Beginning with a discussion of global education and the emergence of global citizen identity, we note issues with measurement but also the benefits of global identification. Next, we define and elaborate on national identity, particularly why backlash against globalization may lead to greater national identification. Following a brief history of acculturation research, we focus on how the concept has been expanded in light of globalization and note areas for future research.
