Contagious Equine Pleuropneumonia

an acute infectious disease of horses that was widespread in the horse population of the armies of many countries during the 18th and 19th centuries. It has been eradicated in the USSR. The disease is believed to be caused by a virus whose action is intensified by pathogenic bacteria (Pasteurella, streptococci). Horses under ten years of age contract the disease most often. The source of the causative agent is sick and convalescent animals. Prevention consists in observing proper zoohygienic conditions for maintaining animals, providing them with adequate food, and preventing them from catching cold.
