On April 7, Disney+ launched in France, making the entire suite of Disney-owned properties available for French consumers. In late March, the streaming service launched in the United Kingdom and several other European countries, including Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland.

Star Wars is available to stream on Disney+.

Disney’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service continues to roll out globally. The French launch comes two weeks later than the rest of Europe due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As coronavirus (COVID-19) forces countries across the globe to adopt rigorous stay-at-home and shelter-in-place policies, consumers are relying on streaming services more than usual. Kevin Mayer, Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer & International at the Walt Disney Co., noted that due to anticipated demand, the streaming service would reduce its bandwidth by 25% upon launch in the European market.

"As the streaming home for Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and National Geographic, Disney+ delivers high-quality, optimistic storytelling that fans expect from our brands, now available broadly, conveniently, and permanently on Disney+," Mayer said in a statement. "We humbly hope that this service can bring some much-needed moments of respite for families during these difficult times."

How to watch Disney+

You can stream Disney+ on a range of devices.

Subscribers in France can sign up at a rate of €6.99 per month, or commit to a full year for €69.99.

Disney+ is supported on desktop browsers, “a wide range” of mobile devices, smart TVs, and video-game consoles. The subscription-based platform will serve as the new home for Walt Disney Studios films as well as original, exclusive Disney+ content, including a full slate of live-action Marvel shows.

What to watch on Disney+

Disney+ is the home for all Star Wars content.

Whether you’ve got children or just want to watch some great movies, Disney+ is a phenomenal value right now, especially compared to the cost of other streaming services like Netflix. Lucasfilm’s first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, has become a smash hit for good reason; it’s a must-watch for fans of classic Star Wars (and you can finally figure out what the whole “Baby Yoda” craze is all about). Disney+ is the best way to access popular Disney movies like Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther, Frozen, Moana, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and tons more from Disney, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Pixar.

The catalog also includes all-new, original programming, like the 2019 live-action film adaptation of Lady and the Tramp and an animated Toy Story 4 spinoff series called Forky Asks a Question. (Due to licensing complications, not all films and shows are available in all regions at launch.)

Disney+ is available to watch through the following devices:

  • Roku streaming devices
  • TVs with built-in Roku
  • Apple TV iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch models
  • Android phones
  • Android TV devices
  • Google Chromecast
  • Xbox One
  • PlayStation 4
  • Sony TVs with built-in Android

In addition to its all-new programming, Disney+ offers on-demand access to classic titles like A Goofy Movie, Fantasia, High School Musical, Lilo & Stitch, The Sword in the Stone, Toy Story, Tron, Up, and Wall-E. The extensive library also includes such beloved TV series as Boy Meets World, DuckTales, Kim Possible, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, That’s So Raven, and 30 seasons of The Simpsons.

By the end of its first year, Disney expects to bring over 7,500 episodes of television and 500 movies to the service—including Aladdin (2019), Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, Dumbo (2019), Frozen 2, The Lion King (2019), Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Toy Story 4, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
