This paper aims to reconstruct the knowledge claims and memory politics in Polish
public discourse about the Caucasus. As it highlights the importance of history and a
production of a ‘New History’ for political use, it illuminates the role of the visual
dimension in the symbolic politics of memory in Poland. The special example of the
Caucasus, particularly the places of Georgia and Russia, serves to show how
peripheral regions can gain prominence in the knowledge struggles and strategies of
self-representation and othering of particular nations, regions and states on the
    geopolitical plane.

This article presents the results of a small-scale field study on the use of
Serbo-Croatian in Macedonia and on current attitudes toward the language. The study concentrates on the region of Southwestern Macedonia around Lake Ohrid. We examine the attitudes of Macedonian native speakers toward what was formerly the “common” language in Yugoslavia, observe how well they speak this language, and determine whether there is a generational difference in speaking abilities. We also offer a contribution to the notions of a cultural Yugosphere and post-communist nostalgias. The study found that, currently, there is regular exposure to the language in this region as well as daily use, albeit with varying levels of speaker proficiency. There is also evidence that for today’s speakers the language represents a symbol of a common Yugoslav past.

The paper employs discourse analytic methods to analyse representations of the
Abkhazian conflict in Serbian media. It identifies discourses that frame their understanding of this
conflict, and investigates the way it is transformed back in time and space to relate it to domestic
crises. The paper tries to deconstruct the imaginary chronology of this conflict, which blurs its
    actual causes and effects
