    Starbucks Shocking Results - Slowing demand and revenue decline (-4%). Their shares had their biggest 1-day decline in share price last week. Analysts expected an 8% Revenue increase so this was a shock. I am curious, are we all finding €5 too much for a coffee?

    HOW TO REDUCE THE CHANCE OF BEING MADE REDUNDANT: Fully remote workers are 35% more likely to be made redundant a study by Live Data Technologies. With a massive push at the moment to get back to the office, what are the consequences for resisting and continuing to work from home? THEORY/LOGIC: John who goes to the office - Is probably safe John who you have lunch with, sneaky pint after work, tells you about his holidays and kids. Hard to let him go! Peter who never goes the office - Is he at Risk? Peter is very good at his job and chooses not to go to the office. He can work from home just as well. Doesn't go on work nights out, or really socialise at all. Comes in once a month only if mandated. The hiring manager doesn't know if Peter is bought in, is he really bothered? Maybe he is the one now at risk! PAYING IT FORWARD: John is also an excellent mentor, trains young staff, they sit in on his client meetings, they learn so much by osmosis. Peter, can't train in as well. Would if he could, but Zoom timing lags etc, hard to pull someone in for that last-minute sales meeting. QUIT RATES: Another interesting stat: 12% of fully remote staff are more likely to quit and change jobs, 33% higher than those hybrid or fully in-office. REALITY IS companies that physically see their staff get more buy-in from their staff. So if they can get people in more, they reduce the attrition rates and costs to rehire. Thoughts???     MUST READ - PAYRISE SEASON: '23 Inflation was 5.24% on Average. So when you are given that letter/email from your manager for your updated salary, IS 3-5% A PAY RISE? Quick Answer is NO! Before that chat, how to ask for a pay rise: 💡Have a Plan - Remove emotions and set the stage ▪ Send an email to your manager to organise a sit-down meeting to discuss promotion or salary increases. ▪ Give a list of 2023 achievements - Where you went above and beyond ▪ What responsibility can you take on for 2024 - Justify pay rise ▪ Expect the unexpected (Everyone Has a Plan Until They Get Punched in the Mouth - Mike Tyson) 🥅 Have a Goal - What outcome are you after? ▪ Is it a promotion? ▪ Is is a Payrise? ▪ Secondment, International move, Train in new staff, projects etc 🤝What % increase are you after? ▪ If you want a 10% increase, you may need to ask for 12-15% (Expect a haggle from the business) ▪ Speak to a Peer in a similar role/recruiter or download a salary guide. Are you asking for a "fair" number? ▪ Let them go away from the meeting - Organise a time to go through the outcome 🙏Non-Monetary benefits - Worth something to you ▪ Maybe you want a car parking space ▪ You have kids - Need more flexibility Come in at 10am 3 days a week, or leave at 3pm and work hours back when kids are asleep ▪ Anything free and worth something to you is worth asking for if realistic. ▪ Growth/Development - Want to upskill, new courses - do you have a business case. 💱 Change Jobs ▪ If you leave you will get a big pay rise, a new skillset, and maybe a new sector. ▪ Don't leave a job if you're happy, but ensure you are rewarded for your ability and effort. ▪ Don't accept a counteroffer, if they didn't have the money when you asked for it, but have it now. They aren't genuine. To sum up. Getting a 1 - 5% pay rise should not be greeted with excitement, especially if you have actively pushed yourself hard last year. If you have asked for a pay rise and got the computer says no, there's no budget and you know the company has increased revenue or profits. Don't just sit there for another year. Know your worth!!!     Patricia McCarthy and I have some Christmas Tunes on whilst sourcing CVs. We started talking about Christmas traditions. Starting to feel a bit of the Christmas spirit now. Everyone has weird traditions, what are yours? A Few of mine are... - Watching National Lampoons' Christmas Vacation on Christmas Eve - When driving to the Out-laws, or flying back to Liverpool. Full volume blaring "Driving home for Christmas" in the car and singing with it, probably to the horror of other motorists! - Cooking a Sausage Roll Plait for Breakfast on Christmas Day - Watching the Snowman film - A must - Brings back my childhood Let's get into the festive spirit. Share a few of your quirkier traditions.
