Architect candidates must undergo a qualified aesthetic and cultural education in a professional field such as architecture that outweighs the artistic side. This idea originates from the belief that architectural projects and designs by architects with a profound artistic-cultural education enriched by global culture would enhance aesthetics and liveability. Understanding great works of art is pivotal to reshape societal and architectural aesthetics. The relationship between architecture and cinema starts primarily with the spaces. Thus, exploring the interplay between architecture and cinema within spatial designs is crucial. This article aims to establish an evaluation set uncovering the original architectural and artistic elements in movies that heavily rely on architecture. Our objective is to equip architects, interior designers, urban planners, industrial designers, and landscape architects with the tools to analyze films referencing architectural art and derive insights. Today, particularly the disabled and elderly people can fail to access easily the product or place they wish in their daily lives and can become dependent on someone due to accessibility problem experienced in numerous societies. This situation can also be encountered in the public buildings frequently used by the citizens. The areas such as wheelchair ramps, WC for the disabled, parking space for the disabled, access for the disabled, tactile pathways and stairs are incorrectly implemented or never implemented in many public buildings according to the standards for the disabled. Within this context, an important step has been taken with the "Regulations on the Accessibility Monitoring and Auditing" which was published on 20.07.2013 in Turkey. The commissions have been established throughout the provinces with this regulations covering all kinds of buildings, which provide public services, open areas and public transport vehicles and the issues which are included in the sc...

The quality and publicity of waterfront area have problems in Istanbul, an important coastal city in common with all character as history, culture, tourism or industrial city. Moreover, the rent oriented building trade has become decision maker of urban land use, change and transformation in Istanbul, which has continuous population growth. Thus, insufficiency of open public space increases in Istanbul where built-up area increases day by day. Inevitably, waterfront areas are affected from construction process of Istanbul. Especially, waterfront areas have problems in terms of public space quality. On the other hand, in the world city Istanbul, lots of projects are developed in order to solve the lack of public spaces however they usually are seen rent oriented. Within the scope of the paper, Maltepe fill area, which is a waterfront project was developed in Anatolian side of Istanbul by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in order to solve the lack of open public spaces because of th...

Migration from rural to urban areas has led to a notable increase in the number of squatter areas in the big cities in Turkiye. The neighborhood in squatter settlements were first formed by the people who had migrated from the same rural regions and among whom blood relations and kinship were quite strong. Although squatter settlers constantly help each other in finding jobs and dwellings, because of this sense of solidarity; socio-cultural factors affecting the formation processes of the squatter neighborhoods have been going on without significant changes. Two squatter settlements have been chosen in Istanbul and the similarities of building culture between their origins have been compared with each other. (Erdogan, 1991) The migrants continued relations with the village as part of their city adjustment and their native village. Squatters were urbanizing by integrating themselves into city and rejected the notion that squatter settlement constituted a permanent extension of the vi...

Purpose The purpose of this paper was to investigate housing satisfaction in a traditional neighborhood of Izmit, Turkey. According to this purpose, it was investigated whether the perceived living conditions (PLC) were mediating the effect on participants’ general housing satisfaction caused by satisfaction with the perceived quality of facilities (FQP), satisfaction with performance of local authorities (LA), satisfaction with social relations (SR) and satisfaction with physical surrounding (PS) in the Topçular neighborhood of Izmit District in Kocaeli, Turkey. Design/methodology/approach According to the hypotheses developed within the framework of the theoretical model, by using structural equation modeling (SEM), first, the direct relations between the variables were tested (PLC → overall housing satisfaction (OHS); PS, SR, LA → PLC; FQP → LA), then the indirect relationships between the variables were analyzed with the mediated role of OHS (PS, SR, LA → OHS → PLC). Findings Th...

Purpose-The purpose of this paper was to investigate housing satisfaction in a traditional neighborhood of Izmit, Turkey. According to this purpose, it was investigated whether the perceived living conditions (PLC) were mediating the effect on participants' general housing satisfaction caused by satisfaction with the perceived quality of facilities (FQP), satisfaction with performance of local authorities (LA), satisfaction with social relations (SR) and satisfaction with physical surrounding (PS) in the Topçular neighborhood of Izmit District in Kocaeli, Turkey. Design/methodology/approach-According to the hypotheses developed within the framework of the theoretical model, by using structural equation modeling (SEM), first, the direct relations between the variables were tested (PLC ! overall housing satisfaction (OHS); PS, SR, LA ! PLC; FQP ! LA), then the indirect relationships between the variables were analyzed with the mediated role of OHS (PS, SR, LA ! OHS ! PLC). Findings-The results show that all factors affected the OHS through the PLC. In conclusion, as the living conditions of the individual living in the neighborhood improve, the conditions take an active role in the relationship between the OHS and the satisfaction with the other relevant factors in the neighborhood, namely, PS, SR and performance of LA. In this relationship, it is seen that the satisfaction with PS has a negative effect, while the satisfaction with SR and satisfaction with the performance of LA have positive effects. Practical implications-Planners and designers should consider satisfaction-including various factors involved in planning, designing and refurbishing the neighborhoods-as the most important design data. Social implications-The results of this study show that living conditions had an active role in the relationship between OHS and certain factors in the neighborhood: satisfaction with PS, SR and performance of LA. This study offers a framework to LA such as policymakers and urban planners to develop relevant and effective strategies and to improve dissatisfactory conditions in new and peripheral areas. Originality/value-The originality of the paper is based on revealing the factors affecting the housing satisfaction of people living in the province of Izmit. This study offers a framework to LA such as policymakers and urban planners to develop relevant and effective strategies and to improve dissatisfactory conditions in new and peripheral areas.

essential and characteristic elements of an architectural culture, which evaluates external space as a natural extension of internal
    features.
The window is a significant functional element of a Turkish house and room. Fixed glass windows located above the lower ones were
the light sources; whereas, the lower windows protected by wooden shutters or bars were used for ventilation or scenery. A shelf,
which extended along the four walls of the room used to be placed between the upper and lower windows. The height of this
continuous shelf was low enough for use.
The traditional Turkish homes had partitioned glass windows rather than large one-piece types. Windows composed of small square
glass partitions are the characteristic types of windows in traditional Turkish homes. This is a convenient architectural style both for
privacy and external perspective. Based on the above-mentioned features, the windows of civilian architectural structures in
Kırklareli are very similar to the windows in Traditional Turkish Homes.
The aim of this work is a formal analysis of the windows in these historical buildings from structural and functional aspects. The
analysis is composed of the establishment and evaluation of architectural characteristics associated with existing elements of these
    structures.
The structural features are evaluated by comparing them to the architectural characteristics and materials used in different historical
periods, as well as in relation to new techniques. Finally, particular attention is given to the state of degradation and damage observed
and to the restoration of traditional characteristics.
