How dare they make a film that tries to and quite successfully captures the indescribable grandiosity of life?! How dare they film such a gorgeous, ambitious story right up in the mountains and not on a set?! How dare they make such an unforgettably moving film about friendship and nature and the paths we take in life?! How dare they play with my heart like this?!

There's a moment in this film when Pietro says he needs to get away,…

"Have you ever reckoned the Earth much?"

Rewatched Edson Oda's Nine Days again for the first time in 18 months since Sundance 2020 and... you know this is an absolute *masterpiece*, right? It's everything magical about cinema and the spectacular existence of life and beyond. Pure bliss. Astonishing and awe-inspiring in every possible way, from the score to the set design to the performances to the story itself about life and what it means to be alive. This is an…

Um this is the greatest train movie ever made?! Come onnn it has every joke and train shot and train gimmick imaginable complete with multiple real locomotives gone wild. Boundless, boundless comedy genius in this - and the story went on way longer than I was expecting, too.

My first time ever properly watching this film - featuring a live piano accompaniment at the Babylon Berlin cinema and it was bliss. What a spectacular treat.

I forgot about his dog in this!!! And wait, wait, is that... an Australian Blue Heeler?! Just like BLUEY AND HER FAMILY?!?! No wayyyyyyyyy so cute. The BEST doggie!! Easily one of the best cinema dogs ever. Wish he was still around in all the sequels. Oh yeah this film still RIPS, my lord (humungus) it's proper badass even 43 years later.

Huh. At least after my first viewing, this is one of my least favorite Wes Anderson films. And considering I love sci-fi and love Wes Anderson, I should've loved this?! But nope. It's an extremely strange, oddly low-key, super nerdy alien encounter parable about... I don't know what? What was that? The most confounding Wes Anderson film yet. So many characters stuffed into a film-within-a-play meta story that only makes it more confusing. That narrative structure really took me out…

Luca reigns!! OMFG, you guys. OMFG. You have no idea how much this is going to fuck you all up forever.

I really don't even know where to begin with Suspiria. The Kubrick comparisons I heard beforehand are accurate. There's so much to unpack, and analyze, and discuss. Take your time. We have the rest of this year, and the next few years, to talk about it at length. Just don't miss it. See this film.
