Paramount+ Purges 10 Children’s Shows, Including Rugrats Reboot — What Else Is on the Chopping Block?
The great streaming purge has come for children’s TV.
Paramount+ has removed 10 kid-friendly series from its library, including a pair of streaming originals: The CG-animated Rugrats reboot and Big Nate — neither of which has been formally cancelled as of press time.
The purge also includes Are You Afraid of the Dark? (2019-2022), Blue’s Clues & You! (2019-), It’s Pony (2020-2022), Middlemost Post (2021-2022), Ollie’s Pack (2020), Ryan’s Mystery Playdate (2019-2023), Santiago of the Seas (2020) and the recently cancelled That Girl Lay Lay (2021-2024).
The new Rugrats debuted in 2021, and followed the “even bigger adventures born from the colorful imaginations of Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Susie and Angelica,” according to the official logline. Original series voice actors E.G. Daily (Tommy), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie), Cheryl Chase (Angelica), Cree Summer (Susie) and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil) all reprised their roles. New cast additions included Veep trio Tony Hale (Chas Finster), Anna Chlumsky (Charlotte Pickles) and Timothy Simons (Drew Pickles).
Additional franchise newbies included Ashley Rae Spillers (Vice Principals) as Tommy’s mother Didi; Tommy Dewey (Casual) as Tommy’s father Stu; Natalie Morales (Grey’s Anatomy) as Phil and Lil’s mother Betty; Nicole Byer (Nailed It!) as Susie’s mother Lucy; Omar Miller (The Unicorn) as Susie’s father Randy; and Michael McKean (Better Call Saul) as Grandpa Lou Pickles, an active senior who enjoys yoga.
Big Nate, meanwhile, followed a precocious 11-year-old boy named Nate and his best friends as they navigated sixth grade “with humor and style.”
Both Rugrats and Big Nate produced two seasons for Paramount+.
This isn’t the first time that children’s programming has been impacted by a content purge: Paramount+ previously scrubbed live-action Fairly OddParents reboot The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder from existence.
But why would they get rid of Rugrats when Nicktoons just started airing new episodes?
My six year old grandson is going to be very upset. He LOVES Ryan’s Mystery Playdate AND Blues Clues and You. I’m particularly upset about Blues Clues because if is intelligent and treats kids like thinking beings. Of all the shows to cancel!
Who was asking for a Rugrats reboot anyway?
More streamers cutting shows and most don’t have any other way to watch.
Streamers are slowly making themselves irrelevant. Original content has almost disappeared. Old movies. Old TV shows. Dubbed foreign fare. Keep this up and I’ll have to cancel the streamers and just repair that cord I cut.
It never made much sense for Peacock and Paramount+ to go into the streaming business. They don’t have enough new content to justify the cost.
The last hing I saw on Paramount + is the new “Frasier”, and that ended months ago.
Peacock still hasn’t brought “Poker Face” back. The only thing I am watching on Peacock is all of the versions of the “Traitors” reality series. And even all of those versions are getting more than a bit redundant. Especially the U.K and U.S versions which are held in the same castle and have pretty much the same missions.

My daughter LOVES Blues Clues & You and watches it regularly! So disappointed that’s being removed. It’s very educational and interactive for toddlers.
Prices increasing. Content disappearing. Seems like a viable business plan! :D
Takes being a really unique class of jerk to go and scrap kid-friendly content that is aimed to the toddler audience. Like…talk about being an even dumber executive really. Damn. Agreed with the other user that said streamers are becoming irrelevant by doing these kind of practices.

Oh great. Let’s get rid of the good moral shows that’s kids should be watching!!! I cancelled my Paramount + months ago and I’m glad I did. Tsk tsk 😒
