That’s a wrap on Young Sheldon.
After seven seasons, the Big Bang Theory prequel finished filming its series finale Tuesday — and emotions are running high. As the stars of the long-running CBS comedy say goodbye, several cast members are sharing behind-the-scenes photos from their final hours on set.
“Today was our last day of filming @YoungSheldonCBS,” leading man Iain Armitage wrote on Instagram. “What a joy, honor and a privilege.”
In a subsequent post shared Wednesday, Armitage reflected on his very first day on set in 2017:
“This is eight-year-old me getting ready to film the very first scene I did as Young Sheldon,” he wrote. “@MelissaPeterman recently asked what I would go back and tell my younger self. Maybe I wouldn’t tell him anything and I would just let life unfold as it does, but I think he’d be so surprised and happy to see where we are now. I sure am. I don’t think this kid could have anticipated what it would feel like to film our final scene all these years later. Thank you, amazing crew, past and present, and those who have been there the whole time. I love you all so much!
Armitage’s TV sister also documented her last day on set: A video on Raegan Revord‘s Instagram story shows Revord (Missy) and Annie Potts (Meemaw) hugging it out. Her caption reads, “My emotional state at the moment.”
Recurring guest star Melissa Peterman (aka Brenda Sparks) also marked the end of production with a selfie in front of the Young Sheldon stage at Warner Bros. Studios:
Young Sheldon director Alex Reid, who helmed the spinoff’s swan song, posted a heartfelt remembrance of his own. “I can’t express how much my time on this show has meant to me,” he wrote. “To watch these actors evolve through the years felt like watching my own family grow and change. Right now I have no words but in the coming days I’ll post some of my photos from the 36 episodes I was fortunate enough to direct. This is from this afternoon, before we shot our last scene.”
But perhaps no post was more jarring than this one shared by Montana Jordan — aka Georgie — who took a video to show that the Young Sheldon set had already been dismantled by Wednesday afternoon:

As previously reported, Young Sheldon‘s one-hour series finale (airing Thursday, May 16 at 8/7c) will feature cameos by Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, who will reprise their on-screen roles as Drs. Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler for the first time since Big Bang Theory‘s 2019 series finale.
The Big Bang franchise will then continue in the fall with the first of two planned spinoffs: CBS’ as-yet-untitled Georgie and Mandy spinoff starring Jordan and Emily Osment. Series co-creator Chuck Lorre is also developing a Big Bang Theory offshoot for streaming service Max.
Young Shelton is one of the most underrated comedies ever! I don’t recall the show or actors ever being nominated for any major awards. What an oversight! I’m looking forward to Georgie and Mandy’s spinoff hopefully with the majority of the cast still intact. I’m pretty sure Iain Armitage will appear as Shelton on occasion but I will certainly miss George (we all know what’s coming…sigh).
Watching this show has been a joy and I will miss it greatly! I will definitely watch the spin-off, and any other future returns to this universe, but I’m still sad to see these characters go.
Love both of these shows, never laugh so hard….wish it would keep going…..all of you are great actors.Wish you nothing but the Best❤️
This was a winning series, exceeded expectations. I liked it better than the original. TV needs more shows like it. Thank you, YS Team!
I enjoyed Young Sheldon so much, better than TBBT, and it became a true ensemble show. The years have passed so quickly and the younger cast members were so young at the start. I wish all of them the best and thank everyone for the laughs and the tears.
I will certainly miss this show. I recently caught a re-run and I forgot just how young the kids were when the show first started, especially Georgie. Looking forward to the next chapter for The Coopers.
Truly love both. BIG BANG and Young Sheldon. World needs clean laughter.
Memaw and George need stand up ovation. As well as the rest
I really hope they are just keeping other cameos under wraps. If Sheldon and Amy are making an appearance, I hope we might get a flash forward with their characters and see how they are doing. It wouldn’t be too far fetched that they’d be hanging out with the gang. :) I’d love an update, at least, on the other characters, as well.
I only began viewing this program three years ago…..now, I cannot miss it! Sometimes, I’ll watch it two/three times per day, I enjoy it that much! If I could have one wish, it would be that George’s death had never been announced. I truly feel that and and MeeMaw have the best roles on the program. Although Sheldon’s part began well, the last couple of years , even he has become too obnoxious to enjoy, and, believe me, I’m not! I truly enjoy Sheldon, but he’s become too pushy and, in a real family, his brother and sister would never take his crap! I’m so sorry that George seniors script has already been written so far in advance. I sure do believe that the show would last longer and benefit hugely with his presence!
I have cried thinking about no more Young Sheldon. A big loss in my TV lineup. It would be great if you would continue the show with another of the actors like Annie Potts getting their own show. Maybe the mother continuing her life after George dying.
I have loved this show from the jump, but it feels like this is the right time for it to go. What is cute coming from the mouth of an eight-year-old, can be insufferable in a teenager. I am hoping the spinoff cast will include Will Sasso. He has been great. CBS should also consider a future series for Meemaw and Dale. They are wonderful together.
