This film was made by Alfred West to be shown at the 100th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1905 and elsewhere in London.
The elderly sailor laying the wreath had served in the Navy at one time under Admiral Hyde Parker (1785-1854), who had been a Lieutenant at the time of the Battle of Trafalgar (though probably not actually present at it).
Pictured in the party is Frank Begg, a boy sailor at the time in Naval training. In 2005, members of the Begg family re-enacted the event on the deck of H.M.S. Victory, now in dry dock at Portsmouth Naval Base.
