Training Opportunities

The Census Bureau offers both web-based and in-person courses to help you access and use Census Bureau statistics. These free courses can teach you how to use our databases and mapping tools, find local and national demographic information for a variety of uses including grant proposals, economic data statistics for business plans, research papers, etc. Check out our eTutorials and course descriptions.

Apr 30, 2015    Accessing Block Group Data with the American Community Survey

Description: The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey that generates estimates on social, economic, housing, and demographic topics. Data users can access these estimates down to our smallest level of geography, block groups, using American FactFinder or the ACS Summary File. This presentation will cover background information about the ACS, an explanation of the ACS Summary File, and a demonstration of accessing block group data using American FactFinder, the Summary File Retrieval Tool, DataFerrett, and FTP site.

Jun 23, 2015    American Community Survey Content Review Update

Description:The Census Bureau is in the process of reviewing each question in the American Community Survey (ACS) to make sure the survey includes only those questions federal agencies need to accomplish their missions, and to minimize the reporting burden on the 3.5 million households that respond to the survey each year.  In this webinar, we will discuss results of the first phase of the project, public comments received in response to a 60-day Federal Register notice published about the results, and next steps. The presentation will be followed by 10-15 minutes of questions and answers.
