One of the several benefits to becoming a member includes the ability to sign up for various classes which will help kick start your production.
WinCAM New Member Orientation
1 session, 60 minutes (required for all new members)
Orientation is a very important step in getting started with your membership at WinCAM. In fact, your membership is not considered active until you have attended the Orientation and have signed the Agreement with Policies form at the end of the session. This informative discussion is required of all new members of WinCAM, but is necessary to complete only once. In the Orientation, individuals or groups will receive a copy of and become familiar with WinCAM’s Policies & Procedures Manual – a set of rules and guidelines for use of WinCAM’s equipment and facilities which is developed and approved by WinCAM’s Board of Directors. This is also a valuable time for the Executive Director of WinCAM (or his designee) to get to know the new members and become acquainted with their goals. Once the Orientation is concluded, a course of action is established that will help the member(s) reach their aspirations.
FLD 101: Introduction to Field Production
1 session, 60 minutes
This class will teach you the basic functionalities of the field cameras (Canon XF-405 and Canon Vixia HF-G21) and the use of tripods, microphones, cables, etc. In this class, you will learn about the process of creating a video from pre-production to production to post-production. We will cover various topics including but not limited to:
- Camera and tripod set up
- Camera functions
- Camera angles/moves
- Gathering audio
- Shot composition/framing (rule of thirds/180 degree rule)
FLD 102: Introduction to Canon EOS 70D DSLR Basics
1 session, 60 minutes
The Canon EOS 70D is a versatile DSLR for anyone from a beginner photographer to a professional shooter. This camera gives your videos an extremely professional look with the added image control of a digital still camera. In the class, we will learn the basic functionalities of this digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) including its shooting modes, effects, composition, and photography principles.
STU 101: Introduction to Studio Production
4 sessions, 60 minutes each in Studio A
This class will provide members an opportunity to become familiar with the ins and outs of a television studio. Students will learn basic production skills and operation of studio equipment and the control room. In addition, they will learn the responsibilities of the crew positions learn studio terminology, hand signals, etc. They will also learn the basics of the proper lighting and microphone set up.
- Session 1 : Studio cameras and switcher, program vs preview, shot composition and framing
- Session 2: Review, floor director responsibilities, lighting (3 point, background), set design
- Session 3: Sound – microphones, connectors, audio board, levels; computer graphics
- Session 4: Director’s workshop – all responsibilities and commands of the Director
STU 102: Introduction to Studio B
1 session, 60 minutes
This class will provide the basics of Studio B – also known as a hot set. It will provide the knowledge necessary to become the host of your own television show and produce a show without the need of a crew. All television shows start with an idea or a vision and this class will make those ideas come to life.
STU 103: Podcasting Basics
1 session, 60 minutes
Have you ever been interested in learning how to start your own podcast? Take this Podcasting Basics class to find out how to get started. You will learn steps on how to record, how to choose a topic as well as tips on keeping your podcast entertaining and audio editing.
All class participation, unless otherwise noted, requires a WinCAM Membership and Orientation session. All classes are held at the WinCAM facility, located at 32 Swanton Street.
STU 201: Advanced Studio Production
1 session, 90 minutes in Studio A
This class will cover the more advanced functionality of the NewTek Tricaster 400 as well as some more in-depth concepts of working in a television studio. Topics include:
- Virtual Sets & Chroma Key
- Working with the Teleprompter
- Live Switching
EDT 101: Basic Editing with Final Cut Pro X
1 session, 90 minutes
This class will teach you the basics of Final Cut Pro X. This is a great beginner’s class to get you started and once you complete this class, we encourage you to start editing your own projects in FCPX at your convenience to become more familiar and comfortable editing in this program.
In this class we will cover:
- User Interface
- Overview of Libraries, Events, and Projects
- Basic Video and Audio Editing (tools, effects, transitions, themes, etc)
- Exporting your final project
EDT 201: Advanced Editing with Final Cut Pro X
1 session, 90 minutes
This class is designed for those who already have a working knowledge of FCPX and want to increase their skills by learning advanced features and techniques.
Topics will include:
- 3D Text
- Color Correction
- Multicam editing
- Chroma keying
- Keyframing
- Speed effects
GFX 101: Introduction to Photoshop Elements 11
1 session, 60 minutes
In this workshop, you will learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop Elements. This software will allow you to edit, enhance, and retouch your photographs. Get creative as you want with Photoshop Elements using text, brushes, and even filters. This is a great program to learn if you would like to preserve your photos and keep them as a digital file.
In this class we will cover:
- Layout and workspace
- Understanding layers
- Using texts, filters, and brushes
- Resizing/cropping images
- Converting to black & white
- Enhancing your photos
