From 2020-2021, I had time at home to practice the works I have played for many years. This record is both a time capsule of 2021, and a reflection on decades of composition and practice. It's also the same room where I have worked for decades in the middle of the energy which New York City itself has brought to me. I love Philip Glass' music and this recording. The vinyl pressing is great and of high quality.
But many other artists include a certificate for a downloadable digital version of the music with the vinyl. CDs are easily ripped, but not vinyl. Please add that.

Absolutely gorgeous pieces played with a tremendous amount of emotion and intelligence. I am glad I found these. For almost 10 years I have helped out on one of the boats, tending the fires for WaterFire in Providence, and these piano pieces have frequently been played in the background, so surprisingly I recognized many of them. Philip Glass also wrote a series of Etudes for piano which he also recorded and are just as good. After he performed them once I spoke with him and he told me that he wrote them so that he would have something to play when he toured. Additionally, he told me that he was working on a second set of 10 etudes (this is almost 10 years ago), though sadly it seems like he hasn't finished them yet. Anyone have any further info on these pieces?

I'm not sure I have the words to adequately describe this music. All thoughts of modernist or minimalist aside, this music is wonderful. It does what good music is supposed to do: it moves you. Mr. Glass may be the best interpreter of his own music.

It has been trendy of late to knock the works of Phillip Glass as perhaps repetative and lacking imagination, many seem to think his music is not truly classical.

However this particular album has an appeal that is imaginative and evocative as it suggests to me, times and places from my past.

The music develops in "waves" that are familar to me,not repetative as such but rather like ocean waves lapping the shore, all the same in one way but each wave is very different.

I really enjoy it.

A longtime fan of Philip Glass, I was moved by his haunting musical interpretation of this surreal story of isolation and the absurdity of life. My high school students found this music to be evocative of the many emotions expressed in this piece of literature. While having some background of Kafka's story would enhance listening to this CD, the music is so beautiful it will definitely touch the soul of every listener.

I was so struck by its beauty and drama that I couldn't wait for it to be over so the announcer would tell me what I was listening to; I went home and ordered the album immediately. I was already familiar with some Philip Glass operas, but i had no idea he was such a brilliant pianist and composer for the piano.

For an intermediate pianist (anywhere beyond beginner) like myself, this music is a gift. Tuneful, relatively easy to learn and play, it gives you an insight into the preoccupations of those post-serial composers (Adams, Reich and Glass) who returned to tonality through an emphatic repetition of basic harmonies. Rather than avoiding simplicity and repetition, this music revels in them. Playing it yourself is like enjoying a familiar journey, knowing where you're going all the time. It's perfect commuter (train) music , transforming the daily repetition into a dreamscape. The haunting Metamorphoses were written originally for Errol Morris's film, The Thin Blue Line. The score of all the pieces on this disc is published by Chester Music. Philip Glass's own versions are a lesson and an inspiration for DIY pianists.
