Emergency Water leaks

Emergency Water leaks
Emergency was packs leaked and seemed to have been slowly leaking for some time as there is clearly visible mildew on the outer box where the water containers are. The entire pack itself was fine, the very bottom of the bag where the water was stored did not appear to be affected. I'm just glad that my son decided to open it up and inventory it. Could have been much worse. My suggestion would be for the creators of this pack, to change the type of emergency water containers being used or remove from pack completely.I also very highly suggest doing a quality check on any inventory sitting in a warehouse somewhere so that the next person does not run into this issue.

I am in love with this bag. In an emergency, you’d probably get by with what’s in the bag. The other stuff you’d want to add (ultralight sleeping bag, ultralight tent, respirator, clothes) are all stuff you’d want to customize anyway. Like others have said, I had to take a moment to figure out the stove. You just light a small fire in it to cook, putting it together was a little tricky. The cartons of water are the heaviest items in the bag. The life straw is a great quality item in its own, and it’s inclusion in this kit saves you a lot of money. The cookware is super nice and would also be pricey on its own.

The bag in and of itself is very high quality. Good straps and supportive chest and waist straps. It has a whistle on the chest strap, which is something I look for in any outdoor/recreational backpack. Distributes weight well and I’d easily pay $50 for the pack alone. We are going to take out bug out bags camping this summer to do a light trial to see what else we need to round it out. This kit would be perfect for backpacking too.

The bottom compartment zipper inside the bag came a little janky. Doesn’t affect the functionality of the bag so I’m gonna leave it as is. I could sew it back but it isn’t necessary. There’s also an outside pocket on the bottom so you can access the bottom compartment easily anyway. The organization is very intuitive and helpful. I’m not the most organized person, but the backpack makes it easy. It would be easy to pack it in and pack it out with little notice

The included meals are crowd favorites. I added some of my own favorite mountain house meals. I guess I could add subsistence blocks as back up, but I’m happier to have tastier options. This pack covers myself and my kiddo. We are going to figure out her bug out bag situation as well, in the event, that god forbid, we get separated. There’s enough in this pack to mostly split down the middle.

I purchased this last year ahead of Texas Hurricane Season and honestly thought I'd never use it, but that changed last week. Stuck in my apartment, unable to leave due to dangerous road conditions and a frozen car battery, without power or water in freezing temperatures this kit may have saved my life.

Here is a list of items I used from the kit:

Fire starter
Mylar Blanket
Emergency Drinking Water
Camp pot
Flashlights
Backpacking food
Handy Bath Bath wipes

One other item I used was a camp stove with an isobutane fuel cartridge which I would recommend adding to the kit. I would also recommend having more water. I ran out Friday just as my water pressure came back on. Luckily my water and electricity is back, but I am under a boil water notice.

I used the fire stater to light found wood to aid my neighbor in cooking her food that was about to turn because my fuel stove would not have been enough for both of us. The fire starter was very good and had no problems lighting right up. I used finger size branches and kindling found along the south wall of my complex. I found that wood located on the south side of buildings and walls were dry. My theory is that the precipitation was coming from the north and the buildings kept the wood from getting wet.

The handy bath was an unexpected luxury and helped keep me sane. Another item not included was an AM/FM/Weather band radio. It had solar, and hand crank charging capabilities in addition to a usb port for charging my phone. Having access to the news and a little music offered comfort and information from city and state officials. It also made my neighbors jealous.

Since I was in my home, I did not need the knife and I had lighters so the ferro rod wasn't necessary. I also had candles which offered a soft consistent light. I would recommend adding some to this kit.

I bought this bag of supplies after separately pricing out everything listed. It's nearly impossible to get what Sustain has included for less. If you can get it for less, the quality will not be the same.

Let's start with the bag itself. It has so many pockets. It's well thought out. There are two ways to get into the bottom compartment so you don't have to dig all the way to the bottom. It has a chest strap with whistle and a hip strap. The zippers run smooth. I couldn't find a bag that compared that was less than $40. I'm surprised they don't sell this bag as a stand alone product. For the people complaining about the branding, take a black sharpie and run over the names. In the zombie apocalypse, anyone with a backpack is carrying important stuff so this branding isn't going to make you more of a target.

The supplies were all accounted for and in excellent condition. They did exchange the sawyer mini for two life straws. I called the company and they sent me a mini. (Side note: the phone rings to an actual person. This actual person takes your information and then follows up.) I think they are switching to the life straws from here on out. Understandable, it's less expensive and a best seller.

Everything has a very long shelf life (30 years for the food!) so you don't have to think about maintaining everything in there. Also, it's all top of the line stuff with great individual reviews so no worries about that.

I added a crank radio, batteries and more things to the first aid kit. I'm ordering a second kit.
