19 Super-Famous Celebs Who Are (Not-So) Secretly Nerdy

I wrote a whole article about this (which Mark retweeted with the hashtag #NerdRoyalty and I can now die happy!!!), but if you don't believe me, there's also a lovely Vanity Fair article about Hamill's nerdiness. In the article, Hamill said that if he hadn't been cast in Star Wars, he would've been a superfan, talks about his geeky childhood reading comic books, and shows off his collectibles. 

Rosario is a huge comics fan, with her Clerks II director Kevin Smith calling her a "fangirl" and "the hottest geek on earth." She's also created her own comic book, "O.C.T.: Occult Crimes Taskforce." Oh, and she's a huge Star Trek fan who can speak Klingon on command. Of being called a geek, she said "Geek to me is a really exclusive, really particular type of club, and it's been really nice to be included. ... To be called a geek so much lately has been kind of fascinating — I've always wanted to be a geek. [I love] to get that privilege."

Now, I can't say if Michael is a nerd in other ways, but he is CERTAINLY an anime nerd. He's talked about his love for anime a TON. He hilariously responded to a Twitter user who tried to suggest he was an anime nerd who lives with his parents by saying "Goku & Naruto are real ones" and then, when told those were "mainstream" anime, he replied, "Nah that was a softball for the anime uneducated."

Angelina has called herself "closet geek" (in reference to discussing government and world politics at home) as well as a "closet foreign policy wonk" and "a bit more boring than people would think."

After calling nerds "her people" on The Daily Show, Annie described herself as a "Scrabble fiend." She's also described herself as "more geek than chic," according to Elle, and spoke about her love of physics in GQ, saying, "Any spare time I have, I bury my head in a physics textbook."

Margot Robbie is a self-described "massive Harry Potter nerd." She even lied to her optometrist to get glasses because Harry had glasses. The above photo was taken on one of her teenage birthdays.

Donald has joked about growing up a Black nerd in his stand-up as well as including this identity in his lyrics. In an interview with Jon Favreau when Jon described both himself and Donald as comic book nerds, Donald described being nerdy as "just liking stuff that takes work to like."

Anna Kendrick is totally a drama geek (and icon) and has also called herself a "closeted geek." She loves Star Wars (in particular, Harrison Ford in Star Wars) and hosts Lord of the Rings marathons every year. 

In a Rolling Stone article where Joe showed off his house, he described himself as "a pretty big nerd," then showed off his Godzilla T-shirt and G.I. Joe lunchbox. In an old Disney Channel clip, he also discusses/demonstrates his favorite downtime activity — "unleashing his inner nerd." 

Pegg — who played Scotty in the Star Trek films and Unkar Plutt in The Force Awakens — actually wrote an autobiography about how much of a nerd he is. The book, which is called Nerd Do Well, details a childhood filled with nerdy influences and even includes some Star Wars fanfiction. 

Hanks is a huge Star Trek fan who grew up with the series and wished he could be in the films. He even beat Simon Pegg in a trivia contest where they prepared questions for each other.

Prior to attending Yale, Emma gushed about returning to school, calling herself a "proper, proper nerd." She's also called herself a "massive geek when it comes to data" when speaking about Geena Davis's activism and her institute. She's a huge bookworm and even started her own book club. 

Vin Diesel is hugely into Dungeons and Dragons, having played it since the '70s. He even wrote the introduction to Thirty Years of Adventure: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons, and allegedly played it on the set of The Chronicles of Riddick.

Manganiello, another huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons, apparently has a basement that's been modified into a gaming room with dragon heads on the walls. He nerded out on the topic with Stephen Colbert and even questioned Vin Diesel's nerdiness on the topic, saying he doesn't know anyone who's played D&D with the action star.

Ari is a Star Wars and Harry Potter fan, and even has a dog named Sirius Black. She also has a 9 3/4 tattoo (for Harry Potter) and an Eevee tattoo (for Pokémon) and confessed to playing Let's Go Eevee for 15 straight hours on her day off.

Mila used to be obsessed with World of Warcraft and is a huge Star Trek fan. When discovering that Marina Sirtis said she wanted Mila to play Deanna Troi in a Next Generation reboot, Mila got super excited, saying she would totally do it, and even saying she would be happy just being an extra in a Star Trek series or film. She also loves Star Wars and the board game Settlers of Catan.

Henry's a big gamer nerd, even building himself his own gaming computer in lockdown. He also paints miniature Warhammer 40K figurines. He actually missed Zack Snyder's call offering him the role of Superman in Man of Steel because he was playing World of Warcraft.

While Lin has rejected the notion that musicals are "uncool" or "nerdy," he's certainly a musical theater nerd and has tweeted that being called geeky, nerdy, or dorky are compliments.
