In Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, Commander Michael Burnham and the rest of the Discovery crew are set to boldly go somewhere the franchise has never gone before: the 32nd century.

The first trailer for the CBS All-Access show's upcoming third season was revealed at the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic-Con. Although details on the season's plot are still relatively scarce, the trailer shows the crew navigating through a universe where Starfleet and the Federation are apparently no longer the dominant forces they once were.

Although the show began as a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, the events of the show's Season 2 finale left the crew of the Discovery trapped approximately 930 years into the far future.

As the trailer shows, the Discovery crew will team up with David Ajala's Cleveland "Book" Booker, who will join the show's main cast, as they encounter they remnants of the Federation and try to discover what happened to the Star Trek Universe. While the setting might be new, a few familiar alien races like the Cardassians, the Lurian and the Trill can seemingly be seen in fleeting moments.
