Department of Transport, Western Australia

Government Relations Services

Delivering a diverse range of specialist transport services to empower thriving communities in Western Australia.

About us

The Department of Transport is the lead agency for strategic transport policy, planning and investment in Western Australia. Together with our portfolio partners – Main Roads WA and the Public Transport Authority – we keep people and freight moving through an intricate system of roads, railways, airports, ports, shared paths and waterways. With more than 1,500 employees we have the expertise to provide and enable safe, accessible and efficient movement for the economic and social prosperity of Western Australia. Our dedicated teams of transport professionals provide integrated transport planning for moving people and freight in metropolitan and regional Western Australia and develop strategic transport policy in the fields of maritime, aviation, bike riding and walking and land transport. We are committed to creating opportunities for Indigenous individuals and businesses to share in the delivery of projects across the Transport Portfolio and, as an agency, support assisting disadvantaged people in remote areas of our State to obtain their drivers licence and gain access to employment and other social and economic opportunities. Our customer-focused frontline staff also deliver a range of transport services to the community including licensing functions for people, vehicles and vessels; regulating Western Australia’s on-demand taxi industry; developing and managing coastal infrastructure; keeping people safe in and around the water and administering a range of transport grants and subsidies. Our vision is to have the best integrated and intelligent transport services and solutions for the State, which supports our purpose to empower a thriving community. This work is guided by our core values of Collaboration, Wellbeing, Adaptability and Accountability.

Updates

  • At the Department of Transport, we do more than help people get a driver's licence 🚗 or skipper's ticket. 🚤 – you may be surprised to learn about what else we do. At the heart of it, we help people participate in activities that enrich their lives, connect them with family and friends and support their community - and we do it in some pretty remote and spectacular parts of Western Australia. It's our people that make a difference, because we live and work in the same communities that stretch across all corners of this massive state. If this makes you more curious about DoT, then take a moment to view our new video and see how we deliver transport systems for Western Australia. #TransportWA #ThisIsDoT 📽️ The Department of Transport acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and their connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respect to all members of Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders past and present.

  • Australia is driving into the future with automated vehicle technology and it’s important we have the right laws to keep AVs safe on our roads. Have your say by 11 June 👉 https://lnkd.in/gBs7K_rC #AVSafetyReforms #AutomatedVehicleSafety

Automated vehicles (AVs) have the potential to provide a range of benefits to road users and the community. These benefits include fewer crashes, reduced traffic congestion, saving on business and freight time costs, and reduction in fuel and carbon emissions. The introduction of this technology will impact everyone who interacts with Australian roads, not just those who use AVs. So, to help to realise these benefits we’re developing laws to ensure that AVs are introduced safely. We have partnered with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts to launch a public consultation on AV safety reforms that will help inform the Australian Government’s development of a new Automated Vehicle Safety Law, as well as amendments to existing state and territory laws. Consultation closes 11 June 2024. To learn more or have your say, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/eNgN4sBT #automatedvehicles

  • Shout out 📣 to the City of Geraldton's Railway Street Safe Active Street, and recent WIN at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) Awards. 🎉🙌 We were proud partners in developing this project, the first safe active street in regional WA. Members of our Active Transport team attended the awards ceremony and were thrilled to see the project acknowledged for its innovation and positive outcomes for the local community. 👏 Opening in 2022, the Railway Street Safe Active Street has since provided a critical link in the City’s northern active transport network, offering a safe connection for all road users, supporting locals to walk, wheel or ride to nearby parks, businesses and schools. 🚲 Learn more about the program 👉 https://lnkd.in/gf7qt-dc
