Created 60 years ago in 1964, the 8-track cartridge can still be found in over 224,000 collections on Discogs! The 8-track cartridge is unique in that it can play in a continuous loop without needing to be ejected or reinserted to play the entire tape. From the late '60s to the late '70s, Ford Motor Company vehicles offered 8-track tape player upgrade options but by the '80s this format was being phased out of cars, homes, and retail and replaced by the compact cassette tape. How many 8-track cartridges are in your collection?

Discogs' Nicole Raney shared some insights with Yahoo Entertainment echoing what we've known at Discogs: record collecting transcends generations, proving its continued growth isn't just a trend but a cultural shift in music consumption. On March 31, 1949, "Texarkana Baby" was among the first 7-inch 45 rpm records issued by RCA in the United States. While often given credit as the very first release in this format, it was just one of many released for the first time that day. Since the launch of Discogs, 7-inches continue to be an important part of the Discogs ecosystem, and we're happy to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first 7-inch records! Celebrate by exploring rare releases in this format from the Misfits, Sex Pistols, Bad Brains, and Minor Threat: https://disc.gs/4aEeiye
