Today we announced that #NIH will increase annual pay levels for predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars who are recipients of the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSA). This pay level increase is based on recommendations made by my advisory group. Investing in our pre- and postdoctoral scholars is an important part of ensuring the future of the biomedical research workforce and enterprise remains strong and globally competitive. This increase in pay levels for NRSA recipients is just a first step toward reaffirming their value and ensuring they are appropriately compensated. I am hopeful these continued efforts help us attract and retain our nation’s brightest scientific minds. https://lnkd.in/eAy7J7aE

Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) and systemic sclerosis (SSc) are life-threatening immune-mediated chronic diseases characterized by systemic inflammation, immune dysregulation, damage to target organs, and tissue fibrosis. Despite substantial advances in understanding disease biology over the last two decades, there has been little progress in discovering effective therapies, while prevention and cure remain elusive. To identify new ways to address these challenges, intramural NIH research programs of the NCI and NIAMS are organizing a one and half-day workshop. In-person registration is closed, but you may still register to attend virtually. The deadline to register and receive the link is April 22nd. https://lnkd.in/ewF9CjEg

New NIAMS research could lead to personalized medical treatment for cancer patients and others who experience skin problems after receiving a transplant of the body’s blood-producing ‘hematopoietic’ stem cells. NIH's "I am Intramural Blog" discusses these findings with the study's authors Edward Cowen, M.D. and Rachel Rosenstein, M.D., Ph.D. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eX5k_RBW
