Earlier this month we trialled the first ever all-electric road paver in the UK on public highways. In partnership with FM Conway Ltd, the new machine was used to re-surface a stretch of road in Mayfair. The smaller machine is not only more manoeuvrable, it’s lighter and quieter than its fossil fuelled cousin, and last week laid a road surface made up of at least 50% recycled road material. This means Westminster City Council and FM Conway are reducing their carbon footprint in all aspects of their work, with other vehicles on site using sustainably sourced electricity or hydrotreated vegetable oil fuel to provide carbon savings of up to 90%.
