Alum: I enjoyed the safety and the surrounding area. Plenty of nature and city life within an hour of campus! Some professors were incredible, challenging, and seemed to love their jobs. I'm disappointed this was a less common experience than professors who seemed to coast, had lazy curriculum/classes, and generally seemed unqualified for their position in teaching undergrad (or even graduate) university courses. The school appeared to start majors they weren't qualified to keep credentialed over the long-term, and it showed in the lack of students who ended up in professional careers of the same majors.... Sophomore: I am a sophomore at WashU. The depth of the education and the number of opportunities (if you seek them) can be life-changing. The business school is super good at hosting recruitment events if your interested in business careers, and the academics ARE HARD -- You will do a lot of work. CS department could be stronger; premed/ bio/chem/pre-law deps / olin are excellent. The undergraduate student body is tight-knit and mostly extremely friendly. People are very smart but not obnoxious or entitled. Campus life is great because many of the undergrads (freshmen, sophomores, and some juniors) live on campus. The housing is excellent, and many students have kitchens on campus. St Louis is certainly not a luxury city (i.e. NY or LA) but does have good restaurants (DRIVE NOT WALK AWAY) and a cheap cost of living (concerts are usually way cheaper). Freshman: Although I had a rocky start with housing and the Honors program I quickly learned that Saginaw Valley State University was full of kind students and amazing professors. The math department is rocky but those that work in the tutoring center really make up for it! Housing can be complicated and frustrating but the state of the dorms are totally worth it! So many things to join on campus and so many people to meet! Definitely a smaller campus which is very convenient on cold Michigan days. Sophomore: Love my dorm, love my classes. Wish it was less cliquey! There are tons of fun things to do but seems like alot of people from Colorado and Arizona go as a low cost solution which creates a lot of cliques. When you are new and shy, you feel like everyone knows each other except you. Once you start making friends, you realize alot mote people are like you rather than already in a clique. GCU has some amazing resources for many majors and specialty groups. There are amazing recording studios for music majors. The state of the art medical facilities and huge gaming facilities. I feel safe on campus but it's scary to venture out due to the surroundings areas. Alot of drug and homelessness. You learn where to go and where to avoid fairly quick. However you really don't need to leave campus much except for church & grocery shopping and toiletries because everything on campus is really expensive. Junior: Stevenson is a great university for nursing majors! You are automatically accepted into the nursing program as a freshman. No TEAS or HESI exams are required for admission. One of the best campuses for studying since it's always quiet and barely anyone is around. It is a small campus but definitely has a lot of character! Junior: Sonoma county is a gorgeous place to live. Being able to live near such good food and nature is a privilege that not many people get. The campus is quiet however finding your place at Sonoma isn't very hard. There is a bunch of clubs to pick from and people are usually welcoming to people with no experience. I will say the cafeteria needs improvement. With the such access to quality food in Sonoma county its a shame there isn't better food in the cafeteria. Lots of variety, but lacking in refinement.... Graduate Student: I am graduating this May (2024) with a MA in Biblical Studies. The program is rigorous to say the least, but fair. 75% of the professors care about you as a student and as a human being. There are always some who are not present - do not take part in any discussions and who do not give any feedback - they are no where to be found! AND THEN, there are some who comment throughout the discussions, provide personal videos each week going over classwork, offer Zoom sessions for live feedback, and practically give you a thesis for feedback. No institution can be 100% in this category, but CCU comes close. I do wish they offered doctoral degrees in Biblical Studies. I would like to stay at this school and teach here as well one day. Sophomore: Wonderful professors, especially in the Psychology department. Sophomore: Ramapo College of New Jersey is smaller than your typical college campus. There are usually no big parties and student life is pretty quiet unless you are involved in the various clubs that are hosted here. Parking also gets packed in the commuter lots, however the farthest parking lot to the main building is only a 10 minute walk. Something to add here that I tell a lot of new students is that public safety tends to be strict with their parking permits and policies, so make sure you have a guest pass or a permit! Although it is a small campus, you are provided with beautiful scenery and incredibly convenient placement. If you take a 7 minute drive down the highway, there are supermarkets, restaurants, and clothing stores for your college needs. My program started as intensive based, but because of the pandemic, we online met online. I loved the time we had in the intensives (week only in-class instruction each semester). Alum: Amazing food, great dorms, and professors that changed my whole perspective on life. I got very sick of the institutional bureaucracy but that might have been true at any college I went to. Other students of color -- be very aware that this is a PWI in a major way, it can be VERY isolating and disheartening. If you go here, I encourage you to ask for support and hold your people close. Freshman: My overall experience has been fantastic. If you are a Christian and are looking to grow in your faith this is the place to come. The entire school is so friendly, and they make it so easy for everyone to interact and become friends. All of the athletics and athletic facilities are fantastic as an athlete myself. The cafeteria food is not the best most of the time, sometimes it is not bad but, most of the time the food is not good at all, and I am not a picky eater. ETBU does have a chick fil a on campus which is amazing and comes in very clutch in lots of scenarios. The gym for all students is very mediocre and could be improved if you are active and not an athlete you may not love the gym on campus as it does not have the most equipment and the stuff it has is not the best. The teachers for the most part are amazing and very personal since it is a small school. You are genuinely taken care of and they care about your learning. Freshman: I generally enjoyed my experience at the University of Kentucky. Freshman coming into the University should feel fairly comfortable going into 1st year undergraduate programs. Personally, went into 1st year engineering and had a good time with the 1st year advisors and peers. The overall structure for incoming freshman is set up very well in my opinion. Things I'd like to see change in would lean on the academics side regarding professors and course content. As a STEM major the teachings and connection with professors is important. Some of my experience with professors fell short of what I would have liked. On the other hand, many of the TA's are exceptional here at UK and are very helpful/caring. Freshman: Overall I love SRU, the professors are great, you are in small classes to allow more one on one with your professors. SRU offers a huge variety of classes, clubs, and more you can be involved in. It is very diverse, and they make sure that everyone feels like they belong. The downfalls of being here is the lack of resident parking, and campus police giving tickets out for anything and everything. The water tastes like pure chlorine and upsets many students stomachs. The food has also made students and faculty sick, and is expensive and usually they do not show prices of some items. The university also uses a meal exchange system and the app used for it is inefficient and does not give vital information most students need, like how many meal swipes you have left. The university also charges students a lot of money for laundry services, but being a college student it is hard to keep up with the influx of laundry we have and costs of doing it.
