Media to educate family physicians, medical students, public how to tackling measles disease.

ISLAMABAD -- Doctors demanded the Sindh government to take immediate steps to control rising number of 'Measles cases' in Karachi, need proper mass awareness for the prevention of epidemic disease.

Dr Mohammad Naveed, talking to private news channel urged parents to vaccinate every child in their household and community against measles.

He further informed people in Karachi specially in rural areas mostly avoid to take early vaccinations for the disease.

He said the measles epidemic had been claiming lives and the vaccination drive would be helpful for building immunity in children against the deadly disease.

Measles was a highly contagious disease, which caused fever and a rash. He said anyone from adults to children could be infected by measles if they were never vaccinated in their life, he added.

He further said early symptoms of this disease are cough, running nose and red eyes. A rash would appear four days later and cause fever.

When asked families coming from the rural areas of city, he said, adding, they complained of unavailability of anti-measles vaccine and other medicines at government health facilities centres.

Dr stresses for early treatment of the diseases and affected child should be separated to other kids in home and schools as it could be transferred from one to another persons.

Doctor Naveed also said, the measles vaccine would be available free of cost at public and private health facilities and outreach sites where parents should bring their children for vaccination as it can save many lives.

Another Dr Amin Zia also urged Sindh government for Measles vaccination for every child and create immunity so that you protect those most vulnerable to measles and those at greatest risks.

Specialist also said media to educate family physicians, medical students and the public about the highly contagious disease, which hit the province in recent months.
