Virtual College Fair – Registration is Open!

High School Student Fairs:

Monday, April 5, 2021

Thursday, April 8, 2021

Transfer Student Fairs:

Monday, April 12, 2021

Time: 5:00 pm – 7:45 pm CST

Check out the schedule, list of colleges, and register now!

Student registration for our last rounds of virtual college fairs in April is now open! We have over 100 in-state, out-of-state, and international institutions registered to present to students. Students will be able to ask questions directly to institutions using a live chat. Student, counselors, and parents can register for free at www.strivescan.com/tennessee/ or by using the link above. Students can explore the schedule and register for each session they want to attend. They will hear from up to six colleges in each session. We recommend registering for at least one session in each time slot.

We have decided to host these fairs statewide for the spring semester. Students across Tennessee can attend numerous sessions if they would like. High school students in each grade are welcome to attend (April 5 & 8). We are having specific transfer student fair for any students looking to transfer institutions (April 12). We are hosting these events multiple nights throughout the spring semester so students can attend sessions that work best for their schedule.

Our hope is that these college fairs will allow students to continue learning about the institutions they are interested in attending and give them the opportunity to speak with institutions that they may not have been interested at the time of previous college fair events. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at rmccol11@utm.edu if have any questions. Thank you for your support!

For questions, please contact Rachel McCollough at rmccol11@utm.edu.

Virtual College Fair – Registration is Open!

Thursday, March 4th, 2021

5:00 pm – 7:45 pm CST

Student registration for the virtual college fair on March 4th is now open!

TACRAO will once again be hosting a series of virtual college fairs through StriveScan, a virtual platform, for high school students, transfer students, and counselors throughout the state of Tennessee to supplement for the many face-to-face college fairs that have been canceled. Colleges and institutions across the state and out-of-state will be giving short presentations virtually with the opportunity for live Q & A for the admissions representatives.

During the Virtual College Fair, students will have the chance to hear from many different colleges, both in-state and out-of-state. Student, counselors, and parents can register for free at https://www.strivescan.com/tennessee/ or by using the link below. Students can register anytime up through the program that they choose to attend. Students can choose which session(s) they want to attend. We hope you will encourage your students to register for these events. Counselors are welcome to register for these fairs as well. Also, please feel free to forward this information to other counselors in your area. I have attached a poster/social media graphic that can be used to promote this event.

Check out the schedule, list of colleges, and register now!

For questions, please contact Rachel McCollough at rmccol11@utm.edu.

Join us for our first-ever virtual conference!

As you know, due to the CDC guidelines, we are moving to a virtual conference this year. Our theme is Connection with Colleagues: Keeping TN Higher Education Communities Engaged Through a Pandemic, and I so hope that you can join us!

With the CDC guidelines and the way that COVID-19 has significantly altered so many membership institution’s academic calendars this fall, we have changed the dates of the conference. The Annual Meeting will be held virtually on November 11 & 12, 2020. Please save the date on your calendar! REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

We are also accepting session proposals! Submit a session proposal here: http://www.tnacrao.org/?page_id=998

Statement Regarding Racial Tensions

Dear TACRAO members,

It has become painfully clear that our country continues to wrestle with racial divides.  While we have made some progress in this country in many areas, other areas have been woefully neglected.  Many of us are trying to process the murder of Mr. George Floyd by members of the Minneapolis Police Department and are dealing with emotions such as frustration, anger, dismay, and hopelessness.

In Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s1963“I have a Dream” speech, he said “all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”  Sadly, after the many years since that speech, the dream has not yet been fully realized.

Moving forward, the Tennessee Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers will continue to affirm our commitment to equity and inclusion.  As an organization, we can effect change and work together through our member institutions to educate and provide leadership in modeling supportive, inclusive, and welcoming environments for all people.

We are so grateful for the contributions of our members and colleagues of color; truly, TACRAO would not be a successful, impactful organization without your valuable insight, your professional talents, and your collegiality and friendship. We, as an organization, pledge to continue to support diversity on our board and in our committees. We want to support the efforts you make in your offices and on your campuses to be inclusive and supportive of students and staff of color. The TACRAO Board plans to continue encouraging our colleagues of color to gain professional development through opportunities within our state, regional, and national organizations.

Education has proven to be a changing force throughout history. We have a unique opportunity, as higher education professionals, to educate ourselves as we lead students to and in their collegiate experiences. We are confident that our association can come together to learn how to serve students of various backgrounds in the most effective and inclusive ways.

Sincerely,

TACRAO Board of Directors
