The world, in words

** Théâtre Saint-Denis, Montréal** Located on Saint Denis Street, this historical theatre really made us feel like we'd stepped into an old French movie. The theatre was built in 1915 and can be found in the city's Quartier Latin They have regular live performances such as musicals, plays, music concerts and numerous stand-up comedy shows during the Just for Laughs festival. #theatresaintdenis #saintdenis #ruesaintdenis #montreal #quebec #roundtheworldmagazine #history #cinema #landmark #canada #theatre Aw (at Rue Saint-Denis - Montréal) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca53AexIw62/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Boutique Eva B, Montréal ** Eva B has long been a Montréal staple, it's a huge three floor thrift store that offer some of the most unique vintage and gently-used clothing from with prices starting at $1. Eva B also has an amazing in-store vegan-friendly cafe that offer delicious dishes every day such as their famous (and vegan) Chinese dumplings in baskets or flavoursome samosas for only $1 each! We found so many treasures here and somehow carried them all the way to BC and onto England!   #evab #evabmontreal #roundtheworldmagazine #quebec #boutique #thriftstore #montreal #canada #veganmontreal #amazing #relic #vintage #thriftqueens (at Eva-B) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca51tkGIdRd/?utm_medium=tumblr

** La Panthère Verte, Rue Saint-Denis ** The Green Panther on Montréal's hip Saint-Denis street is yet another vegan gem in the city. They offer affordable and clean food with the aim of sustainability and their goal is to help positivity impact health and the environment. The Green Panther is 100÷ vegan and their falafel is absolutely gorgeous 💚 #thegreenpanther #saintdenis #montreal #roundtheworldmagazine #quebec #veganeats #roundtheworldvegans #veganmontreal #montrealvegans #canada (at La Panthère Verte) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca5z776OJld/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Saint-Denis, Montréal ** This picture reflects a lot on the blend of new and old architecture in downtown Montréal. The CHUM, a central hospital in Montréal, was built on the former site of the Holy Trinity Church among other structures. The church was built in 1865 and is now obliterated, aside from the steeple that lives on. The church was dismantled stone- by-stone and rebuilt in a cutaway corner of Saint-Denis and Viger Avenue, which serves as one of the hospital's entrances. Saint-Denis is a wonderful street to explore in Montréal with surprises at every corner. #saintdenis #montreal #holytrinitychurch #canadianroadtrip #quebec #chum #roundtheworldmagazine #exploring #history #church #wandering (at Rue Saint-Denis - Montréal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaqJZbCMKpW/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Crew Collective, Old Town Montréal ** As far as co-working spaces go, check this one out. @crewcollectivecafe is located on St-Jacques St in Old Montreal, the café was built on the main floor of the former Royal Bank of Canada building and the result is a stunning cathedral style space, perfect to soak in the golden ambience and a selection of delicious hot drinks. They even have a range of vegan options 🙏💚 merci beaucoup! #crewcollectivecafe #vieuxmontreal #oldtownmontreal #roundtheworldmagazine #montreal #quebec #canada #coffee #veganmontreal #vegancakes #roundtheworldvegans (at Crew Collective & Cafe) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaqIIwMs1ld/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Dépanneur, Old Town Montréal ** All of the sineage in Montréal looks exquisitely historical, like stepping back in time to a classic French movie. Even the shop signs for a convenience store have class of a continental kind, these stores are known as Montréal' Dépanneur. The Dépanneur is popular with students and they literally sell everything from instant meals to batteries and perhaps most importantly for students and travelers, alcohol. It's good to know that Montréal has over 10 dépanneurs across the city and they're normally open most days for long hours. #depanneur #montreal #quebec #backpackers #wanderlust #canada #winter #snow #oldtownmontreal #conveniencestore (at Vieux-Port de Montréal - Old Port of Montréal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CanzzOHIIWI/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Mount Royal, Montréal ** We do little to no research when we book a trip to a new destination, and we do this on purpose so to be surprised on arrival and influenced by locals. So finding out Montréal is named after its famous downtown mini mountain was a pleasant surprise and climbing it was a feat we had to take. Mount Royal is a large intrusive rock hill or small mountain in the city center, immediately west of the Downtown area. The naming convention of Montréal is taken from Mount Royal. It was a moderate hike up many stairs to get to the top and in temperatures of 20 below zero centigrade, we didn't take many pictures at all! At the top, there is a lovely building with toilets, eateries and souvenir shops as well as a big seating area which is perfect for warming up. The hike up Mount Royal is definitely one of the top things to do in Montréal. #montroyal #mountroyal #montréal #roundtheworldmagazine #hike #mountain #hill #viewpoint #canada #downtownmontreal #quebec (at Mount Royal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CanyZqgupqN/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal ** The beautiful Notre Dame Basilica in the historic district of Old Montreal. As gorgeous as it's exterior, it's interior is deemed amongst the most dramatic in the world and regarded as a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. The vaults are coloured deep blue and decorated with golden stars, and the rest of the sanctuary is decorated in blues, azures, reds, purples, silver, and gold. It is filled with hundreds of intricate wooden carvings and several religious statues. Unusual for a church, the stained glass windows along the walls of the sanctuary do not depict biblical scenes, but rather scenes from the religious history of Montreal. The basilica also has a Casavant Frères pipe organ, dated 1891, which comprises four keyboards, 92 stops using electromagnetic action and an adjustable combination system, 7000 individual pipes and a pedal board. Approximately 11 million people visit Notre-Dame Basilica every year, making it one of the most visited monuments in North America. ** Old Port, Montréal ** Stunning baby blue sunset over the Old Port of Montréal. There's something so unique about the way the sun sleeps over a colder climate. No filters, never. Life in Montréal is beautiful in many ways and the scenery in just one of them. #sunset #dusk #montreal #quebec #oldtownmontreal #oldportmontreal #roundtheworldmagazine #crosscanadaroadtrip #winterwonderland (at Vieux-Port de Montréal - Old Port of Montréal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CalCUVIMCbG/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Old Port, Montréal ** When life gives you ice, buy some skates! The Québécois people and tourists alike gather by the Ferris wheel at the Old Port in Old Town Montréal every winter to enjoy a network of ice skating pathways. The grounds are very well maintained and skaters can hire a lock and a box locker for belongings (it costs $5, plus a $5 deposit which you get back when you return the lock). Of course, skates of all sizes can be hired too and if you're frequently skating, it's a good idea to visit one of the many thrift stores in Montréal to invest in your own pair. For the locker hire, the ticket booth will give you a ticket and a ziptie to tie the ticket to your jacket, this needs to be displayed for you to go onto the ice. If hiring skates, you have them all day, so of you need to leave, you can lock them up and return later on. What a gloriously scenic playground to have some winter fun in ⛸️🌨️ #montreal #oldport #oldtownmontreal #iceskating #roundtheworldmagazine #quebecois #quebec #winterfun #canada (at Old port and Downtown of Montreal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CalBbxeM5d7/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Rue Sainte-Catherine, Montréal ** Only in Montréal would you find a gorgeous outdoor art gallery in the middle of winter. Rue Sainte-Catherine, or Saint Catherine Street, is home to many of the city's LGBTQIA+ venues as well as a long stretch of cafes, eateries and quirky stores. The snow was so high at the gallery that it covered a portion of the art but nevertheless, it had to be explored. #art #stcatherinestreetmtl #mtl #roundtheworldmagazine #montreal #quebec #snow #canada #canadianroadtrip #crosscanadaroadtrip (at Montreal Rue Sainte Catherine) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cak-wiXsxW1/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Lola Rosa Place-Des-Arts, Montréal ** We hadn't heard of poutine at all until we came to Canada. For those in the same boat, Poutine is a hearty dish of french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy. It is said to have emerged in Quebec, Canada, in the late 1950s in the Centre-du-Québec region. We cannot see why (because it's so delicious) but for many years it was said to have been perceived negatively and mocked, and even used by some to stigmatize the Québécois culture. Nowadays though, Poutine is the national dish of Canada, there are even Poutine festivals to celebrate the humble dish in major cities such as Toronto, Ottawa and Chicago. Here was our first ever taste of Poutine, the 'Poutine Lola' (vegan of course) 🌱 Frites fraiches, fromage en grain du Québec, sauce brune aux champignons et herbes. Homemade french fries, Quebec vegan cheese sauce, with a fresh herb and mushroom gravy. We couldn't get enough of Poutine during our three months in Montréal and Quebec city, c'est magnifique! #poutine #veganpoutine #lolarosamontreal #montreal #quebec #roundtheworldmagazine #roundtheworldvegans #canada (at Lola Rosa) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cak9tWfsZyC/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Downtown Montréal, Canada ** It never stops. Seriously, the amount of snow in Montréal blew us away, the Québécois street workers have an amazing system to create pathways throughout the city and it's back to square one for them halfway through the day. There's never a moment of a clear throughway, just a blanketd crispy white pathway on every corner. We enjoyed crunching our way around the city to find amazing coffee shops, cathedrals, libraries and poutineries, all the while learning Québécois french along the way. #quebecois #quebec #montreal #snow #canada #roundtheworldmagazine #french #tabernack #downtownmontreal (at Montréal, Québec) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cak7bv0OuvT/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Montréal, Canada ** Waking up in wonderland. Our first view of daytime Montréal. The snow would be shoveled away at night and be as high as this again in the morning, a true Canadian experience and one that put the rooftop hot tubs out of action for a while! #hostel #montreal #canada #quebec #snow #blizzard #roundtheworldmagazine #wanderlust #crosscanadaroadtrip #deepsnow #québécoislife (at Montreal, Quebec) https://www.instagram.com/p/Caillg6Mbi4/?utm_medium=tumblr

** Downtown Montréal ** The first night we spent in Montréal felt like something out of a movie scene. We checked into a luxurious hostel that had roof top hot tubs, we wrapped up in more layers and snow boots and headed into the bitter cold to find some supper. We had no idea how vegan friendly Montréal was and we quickly stumbled on @pizzapizzaltd who sell an amazing range of plant based and generously topped pizzas. Super grateful, as always, for vegan offerings🙏💚 #montreal #veganmontreal #pizzapizza #roundtheworldmagazine #quebec #canada #canadianroadtrip #wanderlust #snowy (at Montréal, Québec) https://www.instagram.com/p/CagOISJovgh/?utm_medium=tumblr
