Two French tourists who were photographed urinating from the window of their hire car as it travelled at 100kmh say they thought the stunt was 'funny' and no 'big deal'.
The men made the news after Angela Chilton, from Essex in England, and her husband Karaan Chilton noticed their behaviour on the Southland Highway in New Zealand on Monday morning.
The two Frenchmen were travelling in a group of five – all French students studying in Australia – when they decided to urinate from the window because they were running late and ‘didn’t want to stop’.

The men thought the incident was funny, and admitted they decided to urinate from the window because they were running late
One of the men got urine on his shorts, and the other misjudged the manoeuver and got some inside the car, NZ Stuff reported.
The stunt cost the men $250 in car-cleaning fees and a police warning for offensive behaviour, but they escaped being charged.
'In the beginning to pee I was a bit blocked because of the wind and it was a bit scary,' Mr Birolleau said.
NZ Rent a Car co-owner Marty Oetgen said the group were banned from renting with the company again.
'We don't need customers like this,' he said.
'I think it is age related, young people being stupid - poor judgement really.'
The men, all in their 20s, were charged a cleaning fee of $250 by the hire car company
Police issued them official warnings over the incident. They were also given warnings for stealing pillows from their hotel
The tourists who photographed the men said they appeared from their windows a few times before they finally urinated.
'I said to my husband just don't get any closer because if they fall out we don't want to run them over,' she told NZ Stuff.
The pair were travelling behind the vehicle for about 10 minutes on the State Highway 6 between Garston and Athol when the passengers appeared to urinate while several cars drove past.
Tourists saw the passengers hanging half their bodies out the side windows of the silver car on Monday
Mrs Chilton said her husband was driving at 100kmh at the time and they estimated that the vehicle in question was travelling a bit faster than them.
Road user safety adviser for Road Safety Southland Maureen Deuchrass said the passengers were putting their lives - and other motorists on the road - at risk.
'I think there's enough to worry about on our roads without worrying about this kind of stupid behaviour,' he said.
The Frenchmen are currently studying at the University of Wollongong.
All of the men were given a warning for stealing after taking pillows from their hotel room.
