Prom styles have come and gone over the decades, but one thing that hasn't changed is the time-old tradition of couples wearing corsages and boutonnieres. This detail can really make you and your date stand out in photos, so pay attention! Expert Lynn Jawitz, one of Manhattan's most sought-out floral designers, tells us how to steal the spotlight and be the best looking couple at prom.

17: What is this season's hottest prom flower?

Lynn Jawitz: Orchids are going to be a great flower this year. The Cymbidium orchids are great because they're larger and fluffier so you can have a lot of fun with color. I recommend that you bring a color swatch of your dress with you to your florist if possible.

17: What is the average cost of a corsage and boutonniere?

LJ: The average cost goes from a high of $45 in major cities to a low of $10. I would just say be honest with your florist. Tell him or her, "This is what I have, what can you do for for me?" Pin-on corsages are less expensive than wristlets, so try to accessorize with a pin-on somehow to save.

17: Who should place the order and how far in advance?

LJ: It's an individual type of arrangement. It's a good idea to go with your date to get the flowers. You can't always delegate when it comes to fashion. The two of you can decide on how much you're willing to spend and who will buy what. You should give the florist at least three weeks ahead of time.

17: What else should couples keep in mind to look great come prom night?

LJ: It takes work and coordination but it's so possible! It's all about working together with your date and putting in a little bit of effort. If he has a blue pocket square, you can have a blue flower. Take pictures as soon as you arrive; you'll want those memories to last forever! So remember, you don't need a stylist -- just a little creativity.
