Namibia: Health Extension Programme Will Bridge Gaps Â? Unicef

Article Views (non — The Namibian Government has launched the country's first health extension programme with the assistance of some of the country's development partners, UNICEF and USAID. The programme is being spearheaded by 34 health extension workers and is being pilot tested in Kunene with a view to reducing maternal mortality and the death of children under the age of five from preventable diseases. Expectations are that the programme will be introduced in other parts of Namibia if it succeeds. In this exclusive interview, journalist Moses Magadza interviews Ms Micaela Marques De Soussa, the UNICEF Country Representative to Namibia about the programme, its anticipated benefits and challenges.
