Ronnie O'Sullivan says he is thrilled to be playing at the inaugural Champion of Champions event at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

The event, which has been revived by Matchroom Sport after it last took place in 1980, replaces the Premier League. The Champion of Champions will be contested by the world's top 16 players, with a top prize of £100,000 up for grabs for the eventual champion come Sunday.

And O'Sullivan, who retained his World Championship crown at the Crucible in May to make it five triumphs in Sheffield, is looking forward to competing at the event, after arrives to Coventry on the back of losing the Antwerp Open final to Mark Selby last Sunday.

"It is always exciting to play in a new tournament at a new venue," O'Sullivan told the Metro.

"Everybody taking part is a winner and it's nice that the winner gets £100,000. It should be a really good, competitive event and I am sure everyone will be bringing their A game to the table."

O'Sullivan will begin his quest for the trophy on Friday when he faces Mark Davis in his opening match.
