McManus continues Shanghai surprise

Alan McManus followed up his defeat of Ronnie O'Sullivan with a comfortable 5-1 win over Stephen Maguire to reach the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

McManus opened up a 4-0 lead before Maguire hit a fine break of 96, before McManus finished the job in the following frame. He will now play Stuart Bingham who also had a 5-1 victory over Dominic Dale.

World champion Mark Selby had to battle against Michael Holt to take his place in the last eight, leading 3-0 then being pegged back to 3-3 before rounding out a 5-3 victory. His opponent in the quarter-finals will be Fergal O'Brien, who beat China's Zhao Xintong 5-3.

Ding Junhui fought back from losing the first two frames against Martin Gould to advance 5-3, with breaks of 96, 60 and 67 in successive frames. Graeme Dott awaits in the quarters after he defeated Shaun Murphy.

Michael White and Mark Allen round out the last eight having beaten Ryan Day and Mark Williams respectively.

The tournament concludes on Sunday, with a top prize of £85,000.
