Jong-hyun of SHINee shows support for sexual minorities

Jong-hyun, a member of boy group SHINee, has expressed his support for sexual minorities by sending a message to a transgender college student through social media.

Kang Eun-ha, a college student who recently came out as transgender, shared a message received from the singer via Twitter on Sunday.

The 23-year-old singer initially showed his support by replacing his SNS profile photo to an image of Kang’s school board post plastered on a wall at Sungkonghoe University where she attends, addressing discrimination on the grounds of sexuality and human rights.

“I support you. I felt great sense of loss towards the world which doesn’t allow ‘differences’ as a celebrity, another minority in a different meaning,” he said in a Twitter message to Kang.

“I support that you raise your voice and say being different doesn’t mean that it’s wrong.”

Kang’s school board post was part of a series, started last week by a college senior at Korea University, calling for students to pay more attention to social issues such as the railway workers’ strike and the spy agency meddling in the presidential election.
