Actor Ha Jung Woo (né Kim Sung Hoon) has been making numerous appearances to promote National Athlete. In recent interviews, he has opened up about his family.

On a recent segment of Golden Fishery, Ha revealed for the first time that his parents divorced twelve years ago. This was big news to the media, as Ha’s father is veteran actor Kim Yong Gun (Swallow the Sun, Sons of Sol Pharmacy).

Ha said that he matured a lot when he was [approximately] 20 years old due to new household responsibilities upon his parents’ divorce. He and his brother lived with their father, so while his father was out working, Ha would buy groceries and cook for his younger brother and himself. Ha admitted that he didn’t understand how difficult it must have been for his father at that time, but that he is now grateful for how they were raised.

Then, in an interview with Newsen on August 8, Ha (30) revealed that his brother (27 or 28) is to make his acting debut shortly. Just as Ha Jung Woo adopted a new name for his career, his brother (né Kim Young Hoon) will debut with yet a different last name (not Kim or Ha). Kim Young Hoon currently belongs to NOA Entertainment, the same management agency as Ha. He previously debuted in 1997 as a singer in the group Yes Brown. Ha stated that he can not yet reveal what his brother’s career name will be.

  1. I like Ha’s acting, but he makes buying groceries and cooking at age 20 so dramatic LOL! was he a pampered boy (scratches chin)?

  2. meh,
Hahaha, I thought that it sounded funny when I was translating too. However, I don’t think it’s so much that he was spoiled but simply the fact that guys in Korea are often not required to take care of housework for the family. Although things are changing nowadays, many males go straight from being taken care of by their mother to being taken care of by their wife.
