Actor Lee Je-hoon, who recently wrapped up his role in tvN’s critically acclaimed crime-drama, “Signal,” visited Tanzania as a celebrity ambassador for Oxfam Korea.

Oxfam is a confederation of 17 different organizations working in approximately 94 countries sharing the common goal of finding solutions to poverty and injustice. The actor has been working as honorary ambassador for the organization since last October.

Lee flew to Tanzania to show support for refugee camps within the country on March 5-12. Among them were the famous Nyarugusu Camp, a community composed of victims of civil wars in countries such as Burundi and Congo.

Lee participated in activities such as connecting pipes to water tanks and installing water taps to provide safe water for the refugees in need. Oxfam is currently handling the job of providing approximately 19 liters of water per refugee in both Nyarugusu and Nduta camps. Also, basic job skills such as baking, sewing, farming, and manufacturing are taught at classes in the camps.

The actor revealed, “I was shocked at the lack of infrastructure in the camps. I’m glad basic necessities such as water, food and hygienic goods are provided to protect refugees from further suffering.”

“However, I hope more people gain the opportunity to start a new life and children to have future they can dream about,” added Lee. “Which is why I ask more people to take interest in the issue --because it can change lives.”
