News Interactive is responsible for all web and text based services provided by BBC News.

The BBC News Interactive newsroom is the department's journalistic hub
The growth in the number of services provided by the department is a direct result of new technologies which are changing the way that people can receive news content.

The role of BBC News Interactive is to respond to these changes and make BBC News content available to people wherever and whenever they want it.

The main services provided by News Interactive are outlined below:

BBC News Online

The multi-award winning news site was launched in November 1997 and is one of the world's largest and most popular news sites.

Facts about BBC News Online:
In a typical month more than 15 million people visit the site
Between 60% and 70% of users are in the UK
The site attracts more than 350 million page impressions a month
BBC News Online reaches around a quarter of the UK's internet users
More than 300 new stories are written in a typical day and the searchable archive contains around half a million stories. News Online is also is one of the largest originators of audio and video material on the web.

News works closely with the World Service and BBC Nations and Regions - their journalism is an integral part of the site.

The website has won four BAFTAs and a Webby for the Best News Site. It has also won two prestigious awards at the American Online Journalism Awards.

CBBC Newsround

The news site aimed specifically at children was launched in October 2001. It is a joint venture between BBC News, BBC Children's and BBC Education and is updated seven days a week.

On this Day

Archive site with news for every day of the year. On This Day is compiled from 50 years of BBC news archive, reports include original audio and video footage.

Ceefax
Developed in the early 1970s, Ceefax was the first teletext system in the world. It went live in 1974 with 30 pages. Today, the service contains more than 2,000 pages and is regularly used by 40% of the UK population.

Digital Text
Digital text services from the BBC are available on all three digital platforms - terrestrial, satellite and cable - offering a mix of news, sport and weather among hundreds of frames of content.

Interactive TV
More than three million people per month use BBC News's interactive TV services available via Freeview, Digital Satellite and Digital Cable.

Mobile Phones and PDAs
BBC News content can also be accessed via mobile devices such as mobile phones and PDA's.

E-mail Services
A range of e-mail services including breaking news alerts and daily highlights can be subscribed to though the following link:

Syndication
BBC News Online offers RSS (really simple syndication) channels for the majority of its sections. These are XML-based feeds which include headlines, summaries and links. These can be accessed through News Reader software which enables you to get the latest news headlines on your desktop.

Syndicated html news boxes are also available for external websites.
