Williams hammers Hendry
Mark Williams 10-4 Stephen Hendry Mark Williams won the last B&H Masters championship with a convincing victory over six-times winner Stephen Hendry. Williams, who beat Hendry in the 1998 final on a re-spotted black, clinched his victory with an 82 break. Hendry was always playing catch-up after Williams had established a 6-2 advantage in the afternoon session. The Scot rallied briefly to take two of the first three frames after the break before his opponent took control to rush through the three frames he needed for victory. "There was some talk of the winner being able to keep the trophy," Williams said. "I hope that's still the case." Hendry slotted in two centuries during the match to take his tally for the tournament to seven, but he will have no complaints at the result.
Williams did the damage in the opening session, capitalising on some crucial misses by the seven-times world champion to reel off five frames in a row from 1-1. When the two men met in the final the Regal Welsh Open two weeks ago, Hendry won 9-5 to claim his first title in 13 months. But Williams, competing in his third consecutive final after winning the UK Championship in York, redressed the balance by taking the £210,000 Wembley prize. |
