Mark Allen claimed the biggest prize in amateur snooker

Antrim teenager Mark Allen claimed the World Amateur Championship title in Holland on Saturday with an 11-6 victory over Australia's Steve Mifsud. Allen recovered well after losing the opening frame to a 135 clearance to move into a 6-4 lead at the end of the first session in Holland. His best break in the first session was a run of 63 in the third frame but his good tactical play gave him the edge. Allen then won five of the next seven frames to win ease home. The 18-year-old star, the reigning European Amateur Champion, is the first Northern Ireland player to win the world title. Joe Swail, Patrick Wallace and Joe Meara all made the semi-final stage of the competition. In the semi-finals on Friday, Allen had come from 4-3 down to beat England's David Lilley 8-6. Final scores
